Ballymaloe Foods, the family-owned Irish company, is proud to announce its significant expansion in the UK market. With more than doubled distribution in Tesco stores and a new nationwide listing in Booker, the company’s premium range of relishes is poised for even greater success.
First listed in 2015 with the support of Tesco Ireland, the premium range of relishes has steadily grown in popularity, and has recently seen major business growth as Tesco increased the availability of Ballymaloe Relish in the UK from 300 to 800 stores.
Ballymaloe also secured brand listing in Booker Wholesale, which will now be stocking 3kg pots of the brand’s best-known product, the ‘Ballymaloe Original Relish’, across 70% of all sites, helping the brand achieve a greater breadth of distribution.
Thanks to strong category performance and increasing sales, Ballymaloe Foods continues to build on its reputation as a UK favourite, having already established itself as Ireland’s number one relish/chutney brand. Made with 100% natural and gluten-free ingredients, the relish is crafted in Cork with only the finest produce. The company has received recognition for its delectable taste, winning two awards at this year’s prestigious Great Taste Awards for its ‘Ballymaloe Pepper Relish’ and ‘Ballymaloe Steak Sauce with Irish Stout’. In 2020, Ballymaloe received a gold star for its ‘Ballymaloe Original Relish’.
With a history dating back to the 1930s, Ballymaloe Relish was founded by Yasmin Hyde, the daughter of Ireland’s first female Michelin Star chef. The recipe for the hero product, Ballymaloe Relish, was developed by Yasmin’s mother, Myrtle Allen, at her country house and restaurant (Ballymaloe House) in the 1950s. Over the years, Yasmin expanded the product range to over 20 different products, and the next generation of the family is now carrying on the tradition of providing top-quality condiments, sauces, and dressings to the Irish, UK, and European retail and foodservice markets.
Maxine Hyde, General Manager at Ballymaloe Relish, commented on the company’s expansion in the UK, saying: “We are thrilled to expand our distribution with Tesco and Booker, which will allow us to provide even more UK consumers with high-quality Irish products. Our relish is made in small batches using local and ethical ingredients, and we are proud to offer premium products with authentic flavour and taste. This is a significant milestone for us as a brand and provides greater access to food service providers across the UK, a crucial market for our business. We look forward to continuing our growth and providing customers with our delicious relishes.
