Custom furniture company secures £850k raise in latest round, powering mission to reimagine how families furnish their home

Roomix Roomix, the UK-based furniture brand known for its customisable, made-to-order pieces, has successfully raised £850k in its latest funding round, a move that marks a new chapter in its mission to reimagine how families furnish their homes.

Founded in 2022 by Shona Chalmers and Mark Apter, Roomix was born out of a desire to make home improvements without the hefty price tag of expensive tradespeople.

Roomix began with a successful crowdfunding campaign of over £200k and has had previous backing and continued support from venture capital leaders including Fuel Ventures. Roomix has evolved into a leading destination for high-quality, custom-made furniture, connecting customers with a network of artisan workshops. Each piece is crafted to order and delivered directly to the consumer.

The recent funding round, which included investment from Simply Scaling, Syndicate Room and a range of existing and new sector-focused angel investors, will support the company in carving out a new niche in the furniture market: offering fully customisable designs for young families whose homes must flex around changing needs – from nurseries to home offices to spaces for entertaining. Their bestselling range of toddler Montessori furniture reflects this approach, with options to add safety features, adapt as children grow, and tailor designs to individual family lifestyles. All products are designed to withstand the wear and tear of family life.

Unlike traditional furniture retailers, Roomix doesn’t carry stock. Each order is made from scratch through its nationwide network of joinery workshops, a model that allows for true affordable customisation, while enabling a low-waste, scalable efficiency and lower delivery times. This tech-enabled infrastructure sets Roomix apart in a crowded e-commerce landscape increasingly defined by mass production. As consumers look for alternatives to disposable, fast furniture, Roomix is providing a solution that combines craftsmanship, convenience, and family-focused functionality.

With a rapidly growing customer base, Roomix recently went through a rebrand, including a new website which launched earlier this year. This refresh has positioned the company for continued growth in the fast evolving custom furniture market.

Shona Chalmers, Co-founder and CEO of Roomix, says: “We set out to offer a solution that made beautiful custom design accessible to more families while providing a meaningful alternative to unsustainable fast furniture.

“Our Supplier Portal tech allows us to connect seamlessly with artisan workshops around the UK and Europe, meaning that we can bring a higher level of customisation and expert-made quality at more accessible price points and faster speeds.

“The latest round will see us expand our network of makers and push boundaries with innovative, family-first designs.”
