Deliveroo, the UK’s leading food delivery platform, has today released its annual ‘Deliveroo 100 Report,’ revealing the top trending dishes of 2024 ordered on the platform across its ten markets worldwide, including the UK.
The Deliveroo 100 list shows a shift towards health-focused food options, with salads now making up 30% of the top 10 global dishes—up from just 10% in 2023 – beating burgers out of the top 10 for the first time.
The UK is no different, with nutritious and healthy food options – the Seiz’a Caesar + Blackened Chicken from Atis and SP Caesar from The Salad Project, both from London – taking two of the top three most popular dishes in the UK this year.
As more consumers look to supplement their weekly grocery shopping with quick and convenient options from Deliveroo, more essentials have also crept into the trending list this year, up 600% since 2022. Consumers are also using Deliveroo’s rapid grocery delivery service to treat themselves to a glass of wine, with the Co-op’s Soave white making the top 10 in the UK for the first time.
The ‘TikTok to table’ phenomenon continues to drive food choices and influence purchasing decisions, with more consumers than ever turning to their social media to search for what’s hot in food and drink. Trending food items, such as smash burgers, Instagram-worthy filling-packed sandwiches, Irish spice bags and viral vegetable sensation – the cucumber – now comprise 40% of the global top ten list, highlighting the power of social media in shaping consumer dining choices.
The viral sensation “Can’t Get Knafeh of It” chocolate bar by FIX Dessert Chocolatier in Dubai—which has had over 90 million views on TikTok—took the number one spot as this year’s top trending item on Deliveroo globally.
In addition to 2024’s most trending dishes, Deliveroo has analysed UK-based customer order habits* to reveal unique regional insights that fit the mould. The royal borough of Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent orders more champagne and GAIL’s Bakery than anywhere else in the UK, while the famously alternative Brighton tops the list for dairy alternative orders. Londoners did not disappoint when it came to stereotypes, ordering more Perello Olives and Torres Truffle Crisps than the rest of the UK put together.
Deliveroo’s Vice President of Regional Growth, Jeff Wemyss, commented: “We are excited to unveil our annual Deliveroo 100 Report, which reveals some invaluable insights into the ever-evolving preferences of consumers in the UK and beyond. This year’s trends highlight a growing commitment to healthy eating from consumers, the undeniable impact of viral food trends driven by social media, as well as regional dining preferences. At Deliveroo, we remain dedicated to connecting customers with the flavours they crave while continuously adapting to their tastes in this dynamic food landscape, all whilst supporting our partners to reach new customers and grow their businesses.”
Deliveroo works closely with all its restaurant and grocery partners to share valuable industry insights as part of its commitment to supporting their growth. The ‘Deliveroo 100 Report’ comes as Deliveroo recently unveiled its ‘recipe for growth’ strategy to support restaurant partners, focusing on building consumer trust, expanding ordering occasions, and providing tailored growth tools for success.
