Derbion, the East Midlands’ premier retail and leisure destination, has revealed that several of its long-term existing retailers have already invested over £5m in store upgrades, fitouts, upsizes and relocations during the first half of 2024.
Since 2021, £35.6m has been invested across Derbion by new brands and existing retailers on refits and upsizes. This latest £5.2m worth of investment from the retailers comes off the back of strong trading performances at Derbion and will allow them to improve their store presence at the centre.
The new investment will also go towards creating an enhanced shopping environment with customers set to benefit from a better store layouts, more interactive experiences as well as increased product ranges thanks to more floorspace.
As part of this new investment popular Derbion stores such as JD, Superdrug, Greggs, and Yours will all be upsizing their spaces. JD will be growing its space to 20,175 sq ft, meanwhile Superdrug is increasing its space by 1,872 sq ft to 10,431 sq ft as it looks to offer shoppers more of its range of health and beauty products. Greggs has increased its space to 2,015 sq ft allowing it to provide more seating for customers looking to eat in.
This year, Derbion has also secured new lease agreements with Ann Summers, New Look, The Perfume Shop, and Quiz who have all recommitted their futures to the centre. Ann Summers relocated to its new space in May whilst the other three retailers will be moving to their new locations across the centre over the next few months as they invest in new and improved stores. Meanwhile, Holland & Barratt, Deichmann and Sharp’s will be refitting their space to enhance the offering it provides to its customers.
This recommitment by Derbion’s leading brands coincides with two new arrivals at the centre with both Pavers and Castore opening stores. With a new 4,000 sq ft store Pavers will stock a variety of shoes and trainers from leading brands including Fly Flot and Padders. Meanwhile, sportswear brand Castore has opened a 1,771 sq ft unit showcasing the brand’s collection of men’s and women’s sportswear in addition to various sports team-branded clothing including Red Bull Racing, England Cricket and McLaren Formula One.
Beth McDonald, Managing Director at Derbion said: “The continued investment from our long-serving existing retailers highlights the confidence they have in Derbion. Their recommitments, alongside the recent arrivals of Castore and Pavers, is part of our progressive leasing strategy that optimises the performance of our current retailers whilst attracting new brands. These new relocations are allowing us to curate the centre and zone brands together to enhance the shopper experience and ensure brands benefit from optimum footprint and location to drive footfall and sales.
“As we approach the run-in towards the traditionally busy shopping period, we look forward to sharing even more leasing and investment news as we add more big-name brands to our line-up to ensure Derbion continues to attract visitors from the East Midlands and beyond.”
