Greggs and Nigella Lawson partner for Christmas ad

Following weeks of speculation, Greggs has sensationally announced the return of its iconic Christmas menu with an inspired collaboration with culinary icon, Nigella Lawson.

In the new advert, Nigella is glimpsed returning home to a London townhouse which is elegantly decorated with a traditional Christmas tree decked in Greggs baubles.

Nigella is affectionately known as the Queen of Christmas, and the Greggs ad certainly doesn’t lack any of the trimmings. In a scene festooned with fairy lights, she notes that Christmas is her “favourite time of year” before tucking into a tantalising Festive Bake.

The domestic goddess is famous for her passion for food, and her first bite of this year’s Festive Bake prompts a response of sheer joy.  Describing the return of the eagerly anticipated festive favourite, Nigella enthuses over a “rapturous riot of flavour” and “succulent filling” as she looks blissfully at the camera. Even the most sophisticated of television cooks sometimes just enjoys the simple pleasures of a Greggs bake.

In a move that’s also expected to delight vegans and veggies across the UK, the ad also confirms the return of the Vegan Festive Bake which customers have longed for since its short hiatus from the menu last year. In the final scene the camera pans across an exquisitely laid kitchen table filled with delicious Christmas Greggs treats, before landing on a platter of instantly recognisable Vegan Festive Bakes.

Launching across social media last night, Nigella shared the ad with her 3.1 million followers on Instagram which saw fans of both Nigella and Greggs flock to the comments.

Nigella Lawson commented on the collaboration: “As a longtime fan of Greggs, and especially their Sausage Rolls, I’m thrilled to be collaborating with them to celebrate the return of the iconic Christmas menu. Greggs brings joy wherever and whenever you choose to enjoy it,  and I’m delighted to be sharing this with the nation this Christmas.”

The collaboration marks the launch of the Greggs Christmas menu as the leading food-on-the-go retailer has become well-known for a series of much anticipated showstoppers to announce the launch of their seasonal line-up. Last year, the brand sent their Festive Bake galactic with a 500-strong drone show, measuring twice the size of Big Ben, above their Gosforth Bakery in Newcastle. In 2022, Greggs also hosted a series of sell-out Festive Bake Brunch events across the UK for revelers to enjoy.

The menu will be in shops nationwide from Thursday 7th November, featuring firm festive favourites and a host of new additions. Returning to the menu alongside the much-loved Festive Bake, will be the Christmas Lunch Baguette, featuring everything to love about a Christmas roast. The all-new Festive Flatbread will also be launching – a soft and warm flatbread stuffed with sage & onion style chicken mayo, sweetcure bacon and a tangy cranberry & red onion relish. And it’s all under 400 calories.

Alongside the moreish savoury treats, a festively flavoured range of hot drinks will be on offer throughout the season. The brand-new Gingerbread Latte (also available over ice) and Gingerbread Flat White are new to the 2024 line-up, whilst the Mint Hot Chocolate and Mint Mocha will return to the menu alongside the Orange Hot Chocolate and Mocha which is already available in shops.

For customers looking for a Christmassy sweet treat, the brand-new Toffee Fudge Muffin and Chocolate & Hazelnut Flavour Doughnut are the perfect pick-me-up, with further sweet treats set to be added to the Christmas menu in the coming weeks.
