In the fast-paced world of health trends, gut health remains a hot topic. Yet, despite its buzzworthy status, it’s becoming a bit of a sh*t show. With hundreds of products and supplements aimed at improving gut health hitting the market, The Gut Stuff is on a mission to show the nation that no two guts are the same and one-size-fits-all solutions just don’t cut it.
Gut health plays a crucial role in our overall well-being. It can impact everything from mental health to chronic disease and metabolic disorders, so information and help needs to be inclusive and accessible. And there’s a strong appetite to know more, with the majority of consumers in the UK (80%) considering gut health to be important – so where are we going wrong?
In 2017, Lisa and Alana MacFarlane founded The Gut Stuff, pioneering a new approach to Gut Health. After becoming the ‘chief guinea pigs’ for the British Gut Project, it became clear that despite sharing the same DNA, even twins don’t share the same gut microbiome.
Lisa and Alana Macfarlane, founders of The Gut Stuff said: “It’s been amazing for us to see the rise in awareness of gut health in the past decade since starting The Gut Stuff but with that has come people trying to sell all sorts of expensive solutions that are meant to ‘cure all.’ The work we’ve done in educating the masses whether it be piloting to be in the school curriculum, on the NHS Food review board, our corporate wellness programme and even a primetime Channel 4 series: people are hopefully beginning to realise there’s no quick fix and education must come first to change behaviour.”
