Poundland today re-launched its website so customers can now order from a range of around 3,000 of their favourite items for home delivery.
From this morning Poundland.co.uk becomes a fully transactional website offering items at the same prices found in Poundland’s high street stores, delivered to customers’ doors for as little as £1.
Alongside customer favourites such as food and drink, household cleaning and health and beauty ranges, Poundland.co.uk also launches this morning with an extensive Halloween shop.
The launch of Poundland.co.uk has been made possible by the digital migration of its Poundshop.com operation and the opening of a second digital fulfilment hub at its distribution centre in Darton, South Yorkshire.
Customer orders are now being picked, packed and delivered from both its new South Yorkshire hub and its original Poundshop.com facilities in Wednesbury in the West Midlands.
The Darton centre, which was acquired when Poundland bought Fultons Frozen food to power the roll out of chilled and frozen food to hundreds of stores, was chosen to host Poundland’s new digital distribution centre.
Poundland has almost completed the recruitment of around 120 new colleagues to expand the operation at Darton in just a little over two months.
Poundland’s online business has grown rapidly after the 2022, acquisition of Poundshop.com and its picking and fulfilment operations centre in Wednesbury, West Midlands.
The success of Poundshop.com which has seen orders more than double under Poundland ownership, meant its operations were running close to full capacity and Poundland needed to establish a second distribution centre before opening up Poundland.co.uk to customer orders.
Adding Darton as the discount retailer’s second digital centre enables Poundland to continue to expand its digital business at pace.
In the coming months Poundland intends to develop and expand the products and services on its new website as it makes a significant proportion of its growing in-store ranges available for home delivery.
“This is an important milestone in the development of our digital business” said Poundland director of digital Tom Hill.
“I’d like to thank the teams at Walsall, Wednesbury and Darton for their amazing efforts to open up Poundland.co.uk – a big milestone for our growing online business.
“These are exciting times in Poundland as we give our customers more ways to shop with us and offer them more value, wherever they are in the UK.”
Poundland’s digital expansion is one element of the transformation programme being rolled out across the business.
Over the last five years Poundland has been undertaking a range revolution in its stores, adding whole new categories such as clothing, homewares, and chilled and frozen food giving customers an alternative to supermarkets.
More than 500 Poundland stores now offer a full clothing range and over 450 extended chilled and/or frozen food.
It continues to revamp stores so they can accommodate these wider ranges as Poundland brings more of the items that customers buy week-in, week-out.
In September alone, Poundland has opened and relocated new stores in Torquay, Ipswich, Pontefract, Cardiff, Teignmouth, Dartmouth and Ryde.
