Research by Absolut Vodka X Sprite reveals how Gen Z are socialising in 2024

New research from Absolut Vodka & SPRITE has revealed how Gen Z, that’s people aged between 18-26, are socialising, with a clear trend towards spontaneous ‘in person’ meet-ups, but a lack of space and money is hindering plans.

It comes as premium vodka, Absolut, and the world’s most popular lemon-lime sparkling soft drink, SPRITE, have partnered to create the new Absolut Vodka and SPRITE, the perfectly planned pre-mix for life’s greatest unplanned moments.

Together, the two iconic brands have brought to life the ultimate pre-mix to drink while enjoying time with friends – whether at home or on the go.

Which is exactly what the research found Gen Z are looking for, with a huge 80% of young people saying they want to meet with friends more often, with even more (85%) saying they feel happier and more fulfilled when they see friends in person.

However, just 13% say they currently socialise in person every day, compared to 27% virtually, and it seems there are a number of reasons why.

First, is cost, with over a third (37%) saying that seeing friends outside the home is now draining their bank balance, with females (40%) finding the cost higher than males (29%).

Then there is space. Over half of young people (57%) said they find it hard to host friends because of a lack of space, with 20% saying they do not have a living area to hang out in, separate to their bedroom.

There are also other factors that are preventing young people from meeting in person, including prioritising work or studying (37%) and having to rely on public transport (21%). However, it appears that Gen Z feel they have less time on their hands than previous generations with over half (51%) citing busy schedules as a reason they can’t commit to seeing their besties more frequently.

When it comes to when young people are planning to meet, it seems spontaneity is key. Most young people are now arranging to meet a couple of days before (2-3 days before: 26%) with the second most likely scenario being planning to meet on the actual day (14%).

So, the verdict is in, spontaneous, in person meet ups, that don’t cost the earth is what Gen Z are looking for. Luckily, Absolute Vodka and SPRITE has understood the assignment by creating a pre-mixed cocktail that just hits different from other cans.

An easy and refreshing drink to enjoy this summer, with no table reservations needed. Remember, those who don’t plan are never late – so, grab your friends, crack open a can and cheers to summer, wherever you are.

These 250ml cocktails are available at supermarkets and stores nationwide now.
