As temperatures are set to plummet overnight with snow and ice covering much of the country, Brits are rushing to the nation’s favourite home improvement retailer, B&Q, to stock up on winter essentials to help keep warm and protect their homes from the snow and ice. From electric heaters, insulation and draught excluders to salt, grit and snow shovels, B&Q’s website, DIY.com, has seen searches and sales for cold weather products rise higher than household thermostats.
Ensuring the house is kept warm and precious heat doesn’t escape during this cold snap is top of shoppers’ minds this week, with draught excluder searches increasing by 169%. The biggest search increase was seen with window insulation, which surged by a huge 1153% compared to last week. Keeping warm is also a priority, as searches of gas heaters rose by 203% and electric heaters by 151% compared to last week.
As the frost takes over, sales of snow and ice related products have risen 62% this week and many are looking to invest in grit salt to ensure that their surroundings remain frost free and safe to walk on, with a significant 900% search increase on diy.com for this product, compared to last week.
