The findings present some interesting insights into how different industries perform when it comes to delivery services.
Supermarkets: Ocado leads with delivery-only model
Ocado, the world’s largest dedicated online grocery retailer was also the first online-only supermarket in the UK. Ocado’s media information document highlights their custom-built software optimising packing processes to minimise product damage and reduce food waste. They lead the way with 27.27% of their positive reviews referencing delivery Ocado’s ability to excel in delivery services and likely helped by a strong warehouse infrastructure built solely around logistics and delivery.
In this article the warehouse is highlighted as an integral part of the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP), which also includes comprehensive end-to-end software systems designed to manage all aspects of online retail, from running e-commerce websites to optimising delivery van routes. These scores indicate high levels of customer satisfaction with both delivery and non-delivery services. Brands in the beauty industry must manage complex logistics for handling fragile items, which require careful storage and shipping. The ability of LookFantastic and Cult Beauty to achieve high scores suggests that their warehouse and fulfilment processes are highly efficient, ensuring that products arrive in perfect condition.
Furniture and DIY: larger items with larger logistics challenges
The furniture and DIY industry involves bulky items, making logistics and warehouse management more complex. Despite these challenges, Taskers stands out with 47.10% positive delivery reviews, showing strong customer satisfaction. The ability to manage and ship large furniture items effectively is critical in this industry, as errors in this process can lead to costly returns or customer dissatisfaction.
Brands like John Lewis (18.33%) and Habitat (14.77%) also perform reasonably well, though there is room for improvement, particularly in managing the complexity of handling large, heavy items through the fulfilment process.
Garden industry: fragility of products requires careful handling
In the garden sector, where products often include fragile plants and delicate gardening supplies, careful handling is essential. The average positive review for delivery in this industry is 21.31%, with Garden Trading standing out at 23.51%. Their well-structured warehouse operations ensure gardening tools and equipment are delivered in good condition. Primrose also performs well with 23.13% positive delivery reviews.
