UK condom use hits record low, Durex has the answer

Durex Durex, the UK’s No.1 condom brand2, is ready to turn up the heat with Intensity – its first premium, latex-free condom made with revolutionary BodyFeel™ material. Designed for superior body heat transfer, Intensity’s ultra-thin, form-fitting design enhances natural sensation and intimacy like never before.

Condoms haven’t had a new material innovation in two decades – until now. Durex Intensity is rewriting the rules: protection that feels like pure connection.

In the UK, condom use is lagging – Intensity reignites the conversation

According to the latest Durex Global Sex Survey (2024)1, the UK ranks 33rd out of 36 countries in terms of condom purchase. Only 15% of Brits report buying condoms last year, and just 16% are currently using them with both main and casual partners1. Even more concerning, 41% of British people are not using any contraceptive methods, and 17% say they did not use any protection during their first sexual encounter1.

These figures reveal a worrying reality: too many people feel they have to choose between safety and sensation – and satisfaction is paying the price. With less than half of Brits (47%) saying they’re fully satisfied in their sex lives, the need for a condom that removes barriers rather than creating them has never been clearer1. That’s why Durex has created Intensity.

Pleasure and protection, without compromise

Durex Intensity is Durex’s thinnest condom, crafted from ultra-thin, hypoallergenic nitrile that transfers body heat more effectively than latex. The result? A condom that feels so natural, it’s almost not there – delivering an unbelievably authentic skin-on-skin connection that brings partners closer than ever.

With its body-conforming fit that moves seamlessly with you and smooth lubrication that heightens every touch, Intensity transforms intimacy into something effortless, sensual, and electric.

Because intimacy should never mean choosing between safety and sensation. With Intensity, you get both – no compromise.

Charlotte McCrudden, Category Manager, Intimate Wellness at Durex, said: “Durex Intensity is the result of years of research into how we can remove barriers to pleasure without sacrificing protection. Our consumers tell us that the best sex comes from feeling truly connected and that they want a natural feeling, like they are wearing nothing, to feel closer to their partner.

By improving heat transfer, we’ve created a condom that allows partners to feel each other’s warmth like never before – proving you don’t have to compromise on pleasure to be protected – and elevating intensity and intimacy to a new peak of sensation.”

A campaign as bold as the product

The launch of Intensity in the UK will be supported by “This Is Not A Condom” – a new social campaign designed to challenge perceptions and highlight just how different and revolutionary this innovation is. Rolling out from 27th August across TikTok and Instagram, and fronted by creator Victor Kunda, the campaign playfully reframes what a condom can be, showing that Intensity is unlike anything that has come before: a condom that feels so natural, it barely feels like one at all.

Prepare for a night you won’t soon forget – or want to. Durex Intensity is now available in the UK in Tesco, Sainsbury’s, ASDA, Boots, Superdrug, Morrisons, Amazon, Waitrose and all major retailers online.
