WUKA are thrilled to be partnering with The Hygiene Bank for World Menstrual Health Day (28th May 2024) to help raise awareness and tackle the pervasive and escalating crisis of hygiene poverty in the UK.
This meaningful partnership comes at a crucial time as The Hygiene Bank released their latest Hygiene Poverty 2024 report revealing a disturbing increase in hygiene poverty, with millions unable to afford basic hygiene products.
- 4.2 million adults in the UK have struggled to afford basic hygiene products in the past year, a 2% increase since 2022.
- 18% of UK adults have been unable to afford period products in the last 12 months.
- 65% of parents have had to choose between buying products for themselves or their children.
- 68% report that hygiene poverty negatively impacts their mental health, with 60% feeling depressed and embarrassed about their situation.
- 13% are now avoiding work, 9% have avoided job interviews, and 22% say their child’s performance at school is affected.
WUKA’s Pledge:
From May 24th to May 31st 2024, WUKA will donate reusable period products to The Hygiene Bank for every order placed. Just one pair of WUKA period pants can make a huge difference – lasting up to two years, helping reduce menstrual waste, and lessening the load for that 18% who just cannot afford to buy even the cheapest of period products.
But that’s not all – WUKA are also offering a 28% discount sitewide 28th – 31st May 2024. This, combined with the 20% VAT reduction makes WUKA period pants almost HALF price compared to last year. Finally, WUKA are able to make period pants accessible to all!
WUKA Founder & CEO Ruby Raut says “Period poverty affects millions of women and girls in the UK and it has to be addressed. It’s damaging, undignified, problematic, and frankly, unacceptable. Women and girls are left with no choice but to use dirty items of clothing, reuse or overuse tampons and pads, which is unhygienic and poses real health risks. We have to tackle it head-on with smart and sustainable solutions and our partnership with The Hygiene Bank is one more step towards addressing this critical issue. Smashing taboos, menstrual equity, accessibility, inclusivity and social and environmental responsibility is at the heart of everything we do at WUKA – we’re committed to making a real, positive, lasting impact on women and girls’ lives.”
