Alpro: Brits eat the same breakfast four days a week – 203 times a year

The nation has spoken; it’s time to break up with mundane breakfast habits and put variety back on the menu.

There’s nothing worse than getting off to the wrong start in the morning – and it happens regularly to nearly a fifth (18%) of Brits.

Stuck in the same routine, day in day out, means that over a quarter (29%) of Brits say they have fallen into bad breakfast habits they simply can’t break away from, with adults eating the same morning meal an average of four days a week – that’s 203 times a year!

But the nation has grown tired of starting their mornings the wrong way – with oversleeping (28%), rushing around (26%) and leaving home late (22%) named as the top morning missteps adults make. So it’s no surprise 44% of adults want to switch up their morning routine.

Luckily, it seems people feel they can turn the day on its head by making simple changes, as adults agree not rushing around (27%) and tasty, nutritious breakfast options (23%) are the leading ways they can switch up their normal morning or breakfast routine. It’s well needed too, as 71% agree having a good morning sets them up to be the best version of themselves throughout the day.

To put some variety back on the menu, Alpro is launching two special Breakfast Clubs in September, in a bid to help people kick-start their mornings the right way. The Alpro Breakfast Club will serve guests a delicious breakfast with a side of laughter, with the two-hour morning event featuring a comedy set from comedian Ellie Taylor, a cookery demo from TikTok sensation Poppy O-Toole and a mouthwatering plant-based breakfast.

Anna Kochanska, head of marketing at Alpro, said: “Our research shows that people are starting the day feeling rushed and uninspired. However you breakfast, getting off to the wrong start – whether that’s eating the same mundane breakfast, or consuming negative content online – impacts both our morning, and ability for us to be our best selves from that point on. Switching up your routine and starting the day right with a tasty breakfast and whatever makes you happy can set you up to be your best version of you.”

Ellie Taylor said: “As a self-proclaimed brekkie fanatic, I know that what I eat and what I consume online during the morning can set my mood for the rest of my day. The research showed that too many of us are getting off to the wrong start each day, which is why I’m on a mission alongside Alpro to help Brits shake up their breakfast routines.”

Alpro Breakfast Club tickets can be booked for just £10* on Eventbrite, with all proceeds from the ticket sales being donated to the charity.

For those who can’t attend the Breakfast Club, a squad of talent including the iconic drag queen The Vivienne, comedian Kae Kurd and influencer and professional chef Martyn will all share bite-sized uplifting content to help Brits break up with mundane breakfast habits and be their best self throughout the day – from tasty recipes to helpful morning hacks.
