GO OutdoorsLeading outdoor retailer GO Outdoors has launched a new TV advert starring Billy the Parakeet.

The bird, voiced by Will Mellor of No Offence and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, is a bit of a dreamer and has spent his days dreaming about the outdoor world. The moment he realises his cage door is unlocked, he seizes his first taste of freedom and heads straight to GO Outdoors York, which recently won ‘Best New Large Store’ at the Retail Week Awards.

Set to the disco track “Mighty Real” by Sylvester, the little escapee is so filled with glee that he even pulls a few dance moves. Hot-stepping on the Stanley flasks and moonwalking past the Garmin  watches, he provides a running commentary of his greatest adventure along the way.

Carly Czuba, group marketing director at GO Outdoors, comments: “I’m so excited for our new Discover Freedom campaign to launch. Our new TV advert is a step forward in our Discover Freedom idea. We’re right with our hero Billy as he experiences the joy of outdoor shopping in our award winning York store. We’re looking forward to seeing Billy’s next adventures!”

GO Outdoors worked with the Manchester-based creative agency driven to create the advert, which encourages customers to #BeMoreBilly.

Graham Drury, Client Service Partner at driven said, “We’re capturing the amazing feeling of being outdoors and expressing it in a really engaging and entertaining way. Billy is perfect, we can all relate to what he’s feeling and who doesn’t love it when the little guy wins in life? It’s a great step forward for the Discover Freedom idea”.

The advert is the second part of the “Discover Freedom” campaign, which highlights GO Outdoors’ focus on spending time outdoors to liberate yourself from the everyday grind.

Billy’s TV debut will occur on Friday, during ‘Googlebox’ and ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ on Friday 11th April and will also be shown on Saturday night, during ‘The 1% Club’ and ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
