Kent sustainable clothing brand kicks off its national growth journey, thanks to HSBC UK

DBTA sustainable clothing brand is poised for national growth thanks to a £40,000 funding package from HSBC UK.

DBT’s offers a collection of t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies, all inspired by the concept of living in the moment and prioritising well-being. All pieces are designed and created by husband and wife, Sarah and David Blake who founded the business in 2022.

The funding has enabled the business to attend nationwide events and festivals, significantly boosting exposure for its high-quality, 100% organic, and environmentally conscious designs. This includes the purchase of a cool vintage Volkswagen Transporter, which David has fully restored himself and customised with bespoke branding. The vehicle not only allows for efficient stock transport but also serves as an eye-catching centrepiece at events.

In addition to enhancing mobility and visibility, the funding is also supporting further investment and growth by covering event costs, such as those for the upcoming Car Fest and Goodwood Revival, as well as enabling the purchase of additional stock and the introduction of new designs to meet growing demand.

The business has also been able to enhance its social media presence by hiring a local freelancer to support branding and digital outreach.

As a result of this support, DBT’s anticipates a 30-40 per cent increase in annual turnover.

Sarah Blake, director and co-founder at DBT’s, said: “The support from HSBC UK has been essential in helping us share our unique, high-quality clothing with a wider audience across the UK. Our story, commitment to sustainability and investment in quality are our USPs. Getting our stock in front of customers brings this to life and drives sales”.

Lauraanne Robertson, SME business banking at HSBC UK, added: “Sarah and David are incredibly passionate about their business. It’s been wonderful to be part of their journey and to help more customers discover their products.”

All of DBT’s products are Fair Wear certified and use 100% organic cotton or organic cotton combined with recycled polyester.  Everything is screen-printed in the UK, and produced in small runs to minimise waste.
