UK dining habits shift dramatically as GLP-1 users reshape restaurant orders

New data from hospitality tech company storekit reveals a dramatic shift in how Brits are eating out, as the rise of GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic and Wegovy begins to meaningfully influence the UK dining scene.

Across thousands of restaurant orders, indulgent dishes have sharply declined, while lighter, protein-forward and customisable meals are surging.

Key findings reveal a nationwide reset in eating out

  • Indulgent items’ share halved — burgers, fries and shakes fell from 19% to under 9% of all items ordered

  • Bowls up 143%, soups up 186%, protein-led dishes up 85% YoY

  • Burgers down 37%, fried sides down 26% YoY

  • Build Your Own Bowl is the breakout hit at +175% growth

  • Low/no-alcohol orders up 344%, mocktails up 190% (GLP-1 suppresses alcohol cravings)

  • “Swap for salad” modifiers surged 1,232% — diners actively customising meals to cut calories

  • Average order value up 27% (£21.82 → £27.82) despite the same number of items — consumers choosing fewer but better items

  • Pickup orders up 59%, the fastest-growing channel, driven by pre-planned, portion-controlled ordering

Christophe Delacroix, co-founder and CEO of storekit, commented: “This data shows a clear shift in how people are thinking about food. Diners are moving away from heavy, indulgent choices and towards meals that feel lighter, more balanced and better aligned with their health goals. While there will always be a place for classic favourites like burgers and pizza, the overall pattern shows consumers are increasingly prioritising healthier options. The huge growth in bowls, protein-led dishes and customisation – like swapping fries for salad, shows people want more control over what they eat and how it fits into their lifestyle.”

Storekit’s insights suggest that this trend is not a short-term fad but a longer-term behavioural shift driven by both GLP-1 users and an increasingly health-conscious mainstream. Consumers appear more intentional, more selective and more willing to pay more for meals that match their health goals.

Storekit, the hospitality tech platform works the world’s most ambitious restaurants like Pizza Pilgrims, JKS Restaurants, atis, Salad Project, Urban Greens and more around the world to sell more, cut costs, and delight their customers – all in one platform.
