Cointreau brings back ‘Margarita May’ with a nationwide campaign fronted by Aubrey Plaza

CointreauThis May, Cointreau, the UK’s No 1 triple sec1, is bringing back it’s summer of margs activation with a nationwide campaign designed to unlock incremental margarita occasions across the UK.

The campaign will be brought to life through a social and digital programme fronted by internationally acclaimed comedy actress, Aubrey Plaza, adding a contemporary and engaging edge to the Margarita occasion and reinforcing that there’s only one way to make a Margarita MargaRight – with Cointreau + tequila + fresh lime juice.

Central to the campaign is a focus on education designed to build consumer confidence in creating popular and premium cocktails at home, while also supporting consistent execution in the on-trade.

Activity will be supported by a strong consumer and trade activation plan, including a branded Cointreau Margarita Bar at Taste of London and BST Hyde Park, alongside increased retail and on-trade visibility.

Nick Ganich, Marketing Director, says “We are seeing a clear shift towards at-home mixology, with consumers increasingly choosing higher-quality spirits and elevating their drinking occasions.  Margaritas are right at the heart of this trend, as is Cointreau which is showing strong momentum driven by increased visibility, marketing support and growing consumer confidence in the serve.

“Over the past 12 months, Cointreau has continued to outperform the category2, reinforcing its position as the number one triple sec for UK drinkers. Our focus now is to build on this moment and drive further category growth by making Margaritas more accessible than ever for at-home occasions.”

With Margarita consumption continuing to surge, the ‘MargaRight’ platform positions Cointreau at the centre of one of the UK’s biggest cocktail trends. By combining category leadership and a clear, accessible serve message in Cointreau + tequila + lime, the campaign offers a compelling opportunity for the trade to drive engagement, premiumisation and sales throughout the summer months.

The Original Margarita Recipe

30ml Cointreau

50ml Blanco Tequila

20ml Fresh Lime Juice

– Make a salt rim on your glass

– Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice

– Shake vigorously until well chilled

– Strain into a Margarita glass

– Garnish with a lime wheel
