American Express has strengthened its partnership with Booker Group, meaning thousands more independent retailers nationwide will be able to accept American Express Card payments under a new agreement.

Eligible Premier, Londis, Budgens and Family Shopper retailers can now offer their customers a greater choice of payment options when paying in-store. The brands join an ever-increasing number of retail businesses that see the value of accepting American Express Cards, including every major supermarket chain and the vast majority of high-street retailers in the UK.

American Express will work closely with Booker Group to supply a range of marketing and point-of-purchase materials to its store owners, along with details of how they can start accepting American Express Cards.

Managing Director, Booker Group – retail, Colm Johnson, said: “We are delighted that our Symbol brand retailers can benefit from a new agreement. This deal will drive footfall to stores and help with overall profitability. Being able to pay with Amex gives shoppers another reason to choose our Symbol stores and this has been warmly received by our retailers.”

Dan Edelman, vice president and UK general manager, Merchant Services at American Express, added: “We’re delighted to offer more of Booker Group’s retail partners access to Amex’s loyal and high-spending Cardmembers. In the UK, more places than ever before now accept Amex, and we remain committed to ensuring that our Cardmembers can use their Card wherever they want to shop.”

American Express continues to grow its merchant coverage in the UK with the total number of accepting locations growing by almost a third (30%) year-on-year.
