Jordan 1 is the most popular trainer of 2023, according to new data.

The research, conducted by sports fashion retailer JD, has revealed that the iconic sneakers synonymous with legendary basketballer Michael Jordan came out on top as the biggest trainers of the year. Followed by Nike Air Force 1, and Nike Dunk in third.

The study compared three different metrics across 31 of the most famous trainers, including those most appeared on screen, those with the largest search volume, and highest amount sold over the past year through an online reseller.

Each trainer was given a score across each metric, before averaging a normalised score across the three was totalled.

Jordan 1 came victorious on the list, with an overall score of 77 out of 100. The trainer appeared the most on screen across 2023 out of any trainer, joint second of most sold and was the fifth most searched trainer on the internet in 2023.

Behind the Jordan was another Nike trainer, the Air Force 1 scoring 63 out of 100. This sneaker is the OG in the ‘Air’ collection, first appearing on the scene back in 1981, and has spawned several subsequent silhouettes over the years.

The sneaker appeared on screen the second-most over the past year, second only to the Jordan 4 in search volume, and fifth-most sold on the online reseller.

In third place was the Nike Dunk, which scored 58 out of 100. The Dunk was originally released in 1985 and has gone on to become one of the US company’s biggest sellers.

The Dunk scored well on screen, appearing the fifth-most out of the 31 trainers studied, in addition it was the eight-most searched trainer online over the past year, but it was the reselling market where the Dunk was most popular, being the most re-sold in 2023.
