John Lewis sees bumper sales of winter warmers as cold snap bites

John Lewis reports seeing bumper sales of winter warmers as cold snap bites. The heated throw has become a working from home staple as customers battle to keep themselves warm in cost effective ways.

Following the success of the air fryer and heated clothes driers in 2023, the heated throw is becoming the must-have of 2024, as customers seek cost effective ways to keep their energy use down.

Serving as both the perfect working from home companion, and for snuggling up on the sofa at the end of the day on the colder nights – the heated throw has become the ultimate accessory, with our entry price Dreamland throws up a huge 500% week on week.

Traditional ways of beating the cold are also proving popular, with women’s glove sales up 67% compared to last year.

In particular, women’s sheepskin gloves have seen a huge increase, as our customers look for chic ways to stay warm. Sales of the Black Sheepskin alone were up 300% compared to last week.

Likewise, our knitwear has become a staple as a cold weather uniform, with the Zip Neck Sweat and the Boucle Jumper leaping into our top sellers.

And customers’ attention is also turning to warming food and drink. Trusty thermos flasks are up 9% compared to last year.

Matt Thomas, a Category Lead at John Lewis said: “While temperatures are plummeting, sales of winter clothing and tech are really heating up.

“The heated throw has become the ultimate work from home staple – plus it’s safely out of shot for any Zoom call, so your colleagues are none the wiser!”
