Co-op serves-up fresh price cuts across fruit and veg range

Co-op is chopping prices for its member owners across up to 54 fruit and veg lines, it has been announced today (Wednesday, 29 May), with the move set to include its long-standing ‘Fresh 3’ promotional offer as the retailer continues its investment in price reductions.

The leading convenience retailer is making changes to how it sells fruit and veg to give its Member-owners access to market leading* price savings, with reductions across fresh produce of up to 44% compared to former standard retail prices, and savings on average of nearly 20%. The additional £6.4M investment is designed to showcase quality British seasonal offering and takes the total amount invested in its member price savings and lowering prices across everyday key essentials to more than £100M**.

Co-op is serving-up fresh price cuts in a phased roll-out from this week. From 19th June, the ‘Fresh 3’ promotion will offer members further savings as it becomes a cornerstone of the retailer’s member promotional offer – increasing value for Co-op members as the retailer targets membership growth to 8m by 2030.

Co-op is a proud supporter of the NFU’s Fruit and Vegetable pledge, forming close working relationships with British farming and the home-grown fresh produce sector, and committing to stocking fresh British produce wherever possible when in season.

Member prices savings on fresh produce launch this week, and will be available across up to 54 seasonal fresh produce lines*** including:

  • Baby Potatoes with Seasoned Butter 360G – Member price of £1 – with members savings more than 44% compared to the former standard retail price
  • Little Gem Lettuce 2(S) – Member price of £0.80 – saving members more than 33%
  • Irresistible Cherry Tomatoes 225G – Member price of £1.85 – with members saving more than 27%
  • Plums Punnet – Member price of £1.35 – with members savings more than 18%
  • Jersey Royal potatoes 750g – Member price of £1.60 –  saving members 20%
  • Pink Lady Apples (4s) – Member price of £2.25 – with members savings more than 18%

Rosie Bramley, commercial buying manager, Co-op, said: “We know that quality, freshness and price are key when it comes to fruit and veg, and we are committed to creating ongoing and additional value for our member-owners. Our price investment is focused on great quality home-grown seasonal produce and further underpins Co-op’s commitment to backing British farmers and growers, while helping our members to make healthy choices, conveniently.”

Last year Co-op was named ‘Retailer of the Year’ by British Berry Growers.

Co-op has grown its membership to more than 5 million active member-owners, with a focus on increasing the number of member owners from 5 million to 8 million, by 2030.

Earlier this month, almost 98% of Co-op Members – who voted at its AGM which was held at the Co-op Live Arena, Manchester – backed the motion for member prices savings on healthy products, enabling household budgets to stretch further and helping consumers enjoy quick, fresh and tasty produce at home or on-the-go.

Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives. Its Member-owners own the business and play an intrinsic part in the governance of the organisation, enjoying a wide number of benefits including member-only price savings across everyday essentials, and personalised offers via the Co-op Membership app.
