Two new own-brand ranges of products have been launched by Tesco to help support customers with their digestive health and increasing their protein intake – available in a number of its larger stores and online from today (Monday 20 January 2025).

Developed by Tesco’s team of expert in-house chefs and approved by nutritionists, there is the new Gut Sense range aimed at supporting gut health, and a new High Protein range offering affordable, tasty protein-packed options.

Tesco Gut Sense range

Tesco Gut Sense includes a range of kefir products. These fermented yoghurts and drinks are made with 100% British milk, 14 different strains of live kefir cultures and provide a source of calcium, helping to support digestive health whist being naturally high in protein. Calcium supports the normal function of digestive enzymes as part of a varied and balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

The Gut Sense range includes the following new products:

  • Tesco Gut Sense Natural/Plain Kefir Drink – £1.75 (500ml) / Source of calcium
  • Tesco Gut Sense Raspberry Kefir Drink – £1.75 (500ml) / Source of calcium
  • Tesco Gut Sense Natural Kefir Yoghurt – £1.50 (350g) / Source of calcium
  • Tesco Gut Sense Red Berries & Cherry Yoghurt – £1.50 (350g) / Source of calcium

Last January, customers searched for Kefir almost 80,000 times, and the words ‘gut health’ more than 6,000 times on Tesco.com, showing a growing demand for looking after digestive health and affordable, accessible products like these.

Tesco High Protein range

The Tesco High Protein range features fifteen delicious new products, making it easier than ever to enjoy options including high-protein yoghurts, breakfast granolas, pancakes, flatbreads, and convenient, ready-to-cook frozen meals.

  • Tesco High Protein Natural Yoghurt – £1.85 (500g) – 22g protein per portion/fat free
  • Tesco High Protein Strawberry Yoghurt – £0.95 (200g) – 20g protein per portion/fat free
  • Tesco High Protein Vanilla Yoghurt – £0.95 (200g) – 20g protein per portion/fat free
  • Tesco High Protein Oat and Seed Granola – £2.75 (455g) – 11g protein/with wholegrain oats/source of fibre
  • Tesco High Protein Chocolate Porridge Pot – £0.95 – 15g protein per portion

  • Tesco High Protein Beef & Broccoli Stroganoff – £2.00 – 20g protein
  • Tesco High Protein Chilli Chicken & Choi Sum – £2.00 – 23g protein
  • Tesco High Protein Beef Ragu with Tagliatelle – £2.00 – 25g protein

  • Tesco High Protein 3 Bean Chipotle Chilli – £2.00 – 19g protein
  • Tesco High Protein Penne (250g) – £1.10 – 14g protein
  • Tesco Red Lentil Fusilli Pasta Gluten Free (250g) – £1.70 – 20g protein
  • Tesco High Protein Noodles (250g) – £1.85 – 11g protein

All the High Protein yoghurts are fat-free, made with 100% British milk, and provide 20g of protein per portion along with a source of calcium. Each of the frozen ready meals is high in protein, below 500 calories, include 1 or 2 of your 5 a day, and provide a source of fibre. Protein contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass as part of a varied and balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

Danielle Simpson, brand manager – own brand health at Tesco, said: “We know how important eating healthily is for our customers and we want to make sure they can shop conveniently for everything they need.

“People are looking for more support to maintain good digestive health, particularly with the gut influencing so many bodily functions, so being able to introduce the new Gut Sense Kefir yoghurts was really important to us, providing a source of calcium and supporting healthy digestion including 14 strains of live cultures.

“We’re also excited to be launching the new High Protein range with options including fat-free yoghurts, snacks and meals that are both delicious and nutritious, covering breakfast, lunch and dinner, and each available for under £3.”

Research by Tesco* found that after heart health (47%), gut health (37%) topped the list of health areas that Brits surveyed are most concerned about. Many people are taking proactive measures to help maintain a healthy gut, including incorporating more fibre (70%), probiotics and live cultures (27%) into their diet. The survey also found that almost 60% of UK adults are prioritising – or will try to prioritise – consuming protein as part of their diet in 2025.
