Danone launches global Industry 5.0 Academy to scale AI adoption and benefits

Danone today announces the opening of the Danone Industry 5.0 Academy – a new global training initiative designed to accelerate the company’s adoption of artificial intelligence, automation, and smart technologies across its operations. This Academy is a cornerstone of Danone’s digital manufacturing and innovation strategy, aimed at enhancing speed, productivity, sustainability, resilience, and flexibility across its global network of 20,000 operations employees by 2026.

This Academy will empower employees by putting cutting-edge technology directly in their hands – building confidence, capabilities, and scaling the benefits of digital transformation. This human-centric approach, fostering more collaboration between people and advanced technologies such as AI, robotics, and smart devices, marks the next frontier of smart manufacturing.

Danone is already embracing this transformation through several live applications:

  • Predictive maintenance: Smart sensors detect vibrations and temperature changes to anticipate machine issues before they occur, eliminating routine checks and reducing costly downtime.
  • GenAI agents: AI assistants analyse production line data to deliver actionable insights, identify efficiencies, and reduce energy consumption, lowering the carbon footprint of our factories.
  • AI-driven decision making: Operators use AI to optimise processes, such as spray drying in baby formula production. It allows real-time analysis, scenario planning and decision-making, to minimise waste and maximise efficiency.
  • Digital twins: AI-powered simulations allow Danone to test new recipes and production scenarios virtually – accelerating innovation and reducing costs.

The Industry 5.0 Academy officially opens on June 18th 2025, at Danone – Nutricia’s Opole site in Poland, a facility recognised by the World Economic Forum as a Global Digital Lighthouse. Training will be delivered both in-person and virtually, covering modules such as advanced automation, AI prompt engineering, and data-driven decision-making.

Vikram Agarwal, Danone’s chief operations officer, commented: “The global manufacturing sector faces a significant shortfall of skilled workers. It’s a commercial imperative for us to train our existing talent base and empower them to be active participants in Industry 5.0. Technologies like AI and robotics are already reshaping how we operate — but their true potential lies in the hands of our people. The Danone Industry 5.0 Academy is about how we bring that vision to life. It’s a key pillar of our Renew Danone strategy and will create long-term value for all our stakeholders”.

“The Academy is just the beginning. We are also creating a new network of 10 pioneering factories to pilot disruptive models of the Digital Factory of the future. Our ambition is to set new industry standards for human-machine collaboration, so we can better serve our customers, consumers and patients around the world.”

The launch of the Danone Industry 5.0 Academy represents a bold step forward in the company’s digital transformation but also underscores its commitment to investing in its people. By equipping employees with the skills to harness advanced technologies, Danone is poised to set new benchmarks in the industry, driving innovation and sustainable growth for years to come.
