As the popularity of decaffeinated coffee continues to grow across the UK, new research commissioned by Nespresso Professional reveals that more than one in four Brits (26%) have increased their consumption of decaf coffee over the past year.
The study of 2,000 UK consumers, conducted by Censuswide, found that while nearly one in ten (9%) report a significant rise, a further 17% say they are drinking decaf slightly more often – reflecting an ongoing shift towards mindful coffee moments that fit modern lifestyles. Flavour, not caffeine, is driving the trend: nearly half of consumers prioritise full flavour (44%) and a smooth, indulgent taste (37%) when choosing decaf, while 47% say they prefer flavoured varieties – making dessert-inspired blends such as Nespresso Professional’s Amaretti Decaffeinato increasingly popular.
The trend is particularly strong among younger consumers and men, who are more likely to choose favour flavoured and indulgent decaf options, while respondents from Greater London lead the way in increased decaf consumption. In response to this growing appetite for taste-led decaf, Nespresso Professional introduced Amaretti Decaffeinato earlier this year as a permanent addition to its Creations range – reinforcing the brand’s commitment to quality and innovation in the decaf category. The continued rise in decaf consumption reflects consumers’ desire for the same rich taste and aroma they expect from traditional coffee, without the caffeine.
Nick Stevens, B2B commercial director, UK & ROI, commented: “We’re seeing a fundamental change in the way people enjoy their coffee. Consumers want coffee experiences that balance indulgence and wellbeing. Decaf has become a conscious choice rather than a compromise, allowing people to enjoy great coffee at any moment of the day – from morning to evening. That shift is reflected in the strong uptake we’re seeing across our clients and partners. The research also found that 41% of UK consumers would pay a premium for high-quality decaf, underlining the growing appetite for elevated coffee experiences. This shows the importance of offering premium decaf options that cater to every guest or employee’s taste and preference – whether it’s in a hotel, restaurant, or office setting.”
With more than half of decaf drinkers (57%) saying they’re likely to choose decaf for iced or cold coffee recipes, particularly in the afternoon, it’s clear that caffeine-free options have become part of the all-day coffee ritual. Nespresso Professional’s wide capsule range allows businesses to meet this demand – providing versatile blends and flavours that suit every palate and moment, from morning meetings to evening dining.
This shift mirrors changing lifestyles, as people look for coffee moments that balance energy, relaxation, and enjoyment. With innovations like Amaretti Decaffeinato and Decaffeinato, Nespresso Professional continues to expand its decaf range – offering sustainable, high-quality solutions that cater to every taste and occasion.
