Chimera Brand Development has secured its first national multiple grocery listing just seven months after launch, with premium Greek anise spirit Ouzo of Plomari confirmed to roll out to 166 Marks & Spencer stores nationwide. The landmark listing follows Chimera’s appointment as UK distributor for Ouzo of Plomari in January and marks a significant step-change in scale for both businesses. It reflects Chimera’s rapid progress in building meaningful UK distribution for high-quality, heritage-led spirits brands, and Marks & Spencer’s continued commitment to strengthening its premium spirits offer with authentic, provenance-driven producers.
Founded in 1894 in the coastal town of Plomari on the island of Lesvos, Ouzo of Plomari is one of Greece’s most respected anise spirits and the country’s No.1 Ouzo, known for its balance, finesse and traditional production methods. The spirit is produced to a closely guarded family recipe using high-quality aniseed, fennel and selected aromatic botanicals, then slowly distilled to deliver a delicate yet characterful profile.
The launch also marks Ouzo of Plomari’s official UK retail debut and the beginning of a new distribution chapter for the historic Greek producer, with Chimera leading its long-term brand-building strategy across retail, on-trade and premium channels.
Versatile and food-friendly, Ouzo of Plomari is traditionally served over ice and with chilled water and also lends itself to contemporary Mediterranean-style serves, making it a natural fit for Marks & Spencer shoppers who prioritise quality, provenance and authentic flavour.
Seymour Ferreira commented: “Securing a nationwide Marks & Spencer listing within weeks of taking on Ouzo of Plomari is an incredible achievement for Chimera and a powerful statement of intent. This is exactly the type of brand we exist to champion: heritage-driven, high-quality and internationally respected, yet underrepresented in the UK. To move from appointment to national multiple distribution so quickly reflects both the strength of the brand and the ambition of our business. We’re excited to build Ouzo of Plomari into a leading premium ouzo in the UK.”
Marks and Spencer’s buyer, Panagiota Polyzoudi commented: “Ouzo was a clear gap in our Spirits range, and we wanted to introduce the category with a high-quality, authentic product that has strong provenance. Ouzo of Plomari stood out as a credible benchmark, with a clear heritage story and a natural link to food-led and social occasions. On a personal note, being Greek myself, I’m very familiar with the category and with Ouzo of Plomari, so I’m confident in both the quality of the liquid and the brand’s authenticity.”
Ouzo of Plomari is now available in 166 Marks & Spencer stores nationwide.
