Princes has announced the launch of four new curry SKUs in its canned ready meal range; Thai Red Chicken Curry, Thai Green Chicken Curry, Chicken Katsu Curry and Korean Sweet Chilli Chicken Curry.

The recent innovation taps into the growing consumer demand for modern, Asian cuisine, as Thai, Japanese and Korean flavour profiles continue to trend with mass market appeal. All four products are high in protein which is visible on front of packs, with no red traffic lights.

With 80% of buyers eager to see more modern cuisines in canned ready meals (CRM), Princes is introducing the new products to cater to demand and consumer desire for flavour innovation as flavour trends remain largely unmet across the category, offering a fresh and exciting alternative for both shoppers and retailers.

Worth £15.6 million, curry is a key sector within CRM, with strong growth outperforming category decline. As the number one brand within curry CRM, Princes is well placed to support longevity as curry continues to drive performance, with volume +2.6% and value +2.1%3.

Thai Green Chicken Curry, Chicken Katsu Curry and Korean Sweet Chilli Chicken Curry are now available from Sainsbury’s, with Korean Sweet Chilli Chicken also available now in Iceland. All four products will be available in Tesco from October 26.

Jeremy Gibson, marketing director at Princes Group, said: “We know consumers are increasingly seeking exciting, global flavours that are both convenient and tasty. Our brand new flavours will bring some of the nation’s favourite Asian-inspired dishes to the canned ready meal category, providing shoppers with affordable, quick meal solutions.

“As curry continues to perform strongly within the category, we’re confident these new additions will appeal to both existing Princes shoppers and those looking to explore new cuisines at an affordable price.”

Princes plays a significant role within the CRM category, delivering on key consumer needs such as high protein, convenience and flavour range, as convenience continues to be the largest driver for consumption of CRM4 . The new global flavours unlock an exciting opportunity for wider category growth, driving innovation that taps into evolving consumer tastes.

Product availability:

  • Available now from Sainsburys: Thai Green Chicken Curry, Chicken Katsu Curry and Korean Sweet Chilli Chicken Curry
  • Available now from Iceland: Sweet Chilli Chicken Curry
  • Available in Tesco from October 26: All flavours
