Mooncup and WUKA join forces to launch limited edition reusable pads made from offcuts

Mooncup, creator of the first silicone menstrual cup in the world, has teamed up with pioneering reusable period wear brand, WUKA, to create a limited edition collection of reusable pads and liners.

Crafted using offcuts from WUKA period pants and launching on 28 February, Mooncup x WUKA Reusable Period Pads & Liners are set to further disrupt the sustainable period care category and thereby increasing the ethical choices available to people in the UK.

Those of us experiencing periods will use 11,000 disposable period products on average over the course of a lifetime, with the vast majority of traditional single-use pads and tampons – which contain up to 90% plastic – ending up in landfill or in the ocean, causing dire consequences for the environment.  This limited edition pad and liner collection offers yet another sustainable option to help reduce the environmental period product footprint, without compromising on the comfort, convenience, reliability, or protection everyone deserves on their period.

The first silicone menstrual cup in the world, Mooncup started in Brighton in 2002 setting standards for environmentally friendly period products. WUKA, started in 2017, is the first British company manufacturing and selling period pants.  This unique collaboration between two supposedly competing brands demonstrates the true commitment of two leading, dynamic female-led businesses to give consumers more choice whilst helping tackle the environmental waste produced by the corporate giants before them.

“When we started, reusable period products were unheard of. We had to forge a third category on supermarkets’ menstrual product aisles.  Fast forward to 2023, throwaway tampons and pads are no longer our only options. From menstrual cups to period pants, we finally have a choice that more accurately reflects what we want and how our periods really are.” says Mooncup Director, Kath Clements. “Our needs around our period are as unique as we each are and can change from day to day and month to month.  What we need for our first period, will unlikely be a match for our postpartum bleeds, or during the changing needs of perimenopause. We have a right to switch up our choices and most importantly, that choice should not come at the cost of our environment.”

Ruby Raut, WUKA CEO adds, “We’re thrilled to be partnering with a fellow female-founded brand that shares the same ethos as WUKA; that we should all have the freedom to choose from healthier, more comfortable alternatives and above all, do what’s right for our bodies. I founded WUKA after experiencing period poverty and stigma first-hand in my native Nepal and vowed to create products that would give people the confidence, comfort and security they need to live their lives irrespective of their period, all while protecting our planet for future generations. Joining forces with Mooncup offers us both a chance to accelerate our respective missions whilst driving home the message that when women work together, meaningful change can happen.”

With an RRP between £10 – £18 the Mooncup® x WUKA® limited edition period pads and liner bundles are available to buy on the online shops of both brands. Find out more at www.mooncup.co.uk/mooncupxwuka or www.wuka.co.uk/collections/mooncup-x-wuka-reusable-pads-liners
