B CorpTM recertification: L’Occitane en Provence meets B LabTM’s new standards

Certified as a B CorpTMsince 2023, L’Occitane en Provence has achieved recertification under B LabTM’s new standards, more rigorous and based on performance criteria covering all of the company’s operations. As an early adopter of the new standards amongst companies of its size, the Maison reaffirms its commitment to having its practices evaluated against independent, rigorous, and internationally recognized criteria.

This new certification comes as L’Occitane en Provence celebrates its 50th anniversary. It is part of a long-term strategy aimed at combining economic performance with positive impact, while respecting people and nature.

STRENGTHENED STANDARDS

The new B CorpTM standards mark a significant evolution in the certification framework. They are now more comprehensive and assess a company’s actual impact across all of its activities. To achieve certification, companies must meet all applicable requirements of the standards relevant to their size and sector and demonstrate performance across each of the seven impact areas assessed by B LabTM: Purpose and Stakeholder Governance; Fair Work; Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion; Human Rights; Climate Action; Environmental Stewardship and Circularity; and Public Affairs and Collective Action.

Requirements are phased at initial certification (Year 0), then at Year 3 and Year 5, so companies must demonstrate progress to remain certified. The challenge is no longer to achieve a certain level of performance, but to demonstrate continuous improvement in each of the standard’s areas. For L’Occitane en Provence, this change reinforces an approach already underway since its first certification in 2023: measuring progress made, identifying areas where the company still needs to improve, and ensuring these advancements are sustained over time.

CONCRETE PROGRESS

With a longstanding commitment to social and environmental issues, L’Occitane en Provence has continued to advance its practices, particularly in the areas of social policy, the supply chain, and the environment. These advancements have helped the Maison meet the stricter requirements of the new B CorpTM standards.

On the human resources front, L’Occitane en Provence has notably implemented a new Compensation and Benefits Policy, integrated into a comprehensive fair wage strategy. Today, 100% of employees receive a salary that meets Living Wage criteria, as certified by an independent third party. The Maison is also continuing its efforts regarding transparency and pay equity, and fully complies with B LabTM’s requirements regarding the gender pay gap.

L’Occitane en Provence has also continued its #NotJustSuppliers responsible sourcing program, which addresses social and environmental issues throughout its supply chain. The program includes, in particular, suppliers’ adherence to the Group’s Code of Conduct, their EcoVadis assessment, the integration of CSR criteria into partner selection, traceability, as well as the identification and monitoring of risks related to biodiversity, carbon, and human rights. Suppliers’ action plans and progress are monitored during dedicated meetings held each quarter.

Finally, on the environmental front, L’Occitane en Provence continues to make progress on its climate and biodiversity action plans, which were already key strengths of its B Corp certification in 2023. The Maison has recently enhanced the quality and rigor of its data through an external audit of its carbon footprint, which complemented its internal assessment process. Beyond the eco- design of its packaging, the company is also studying recovery and recycling channels in its various markets to better tailor its action plans to local specificities.

NEXT STEPS

This recertification marks a new milestone in L’Occitane en Provence’s efforts. The company will continue its efforts across each of the standard’s seven areas and will need to demonstrate its progress during the next evaluations, scheduled for 2029 and then 2031.

Among the priorities identified are, in particular, pay transparency, fair compensation within its supply chain, and accelerating goals related to material circularity and the reduction of water and energy consumption (for example, through large-scale projects at its manufacturing facilities). The Maison also plans to enhance employee training on climate and biodiversity issues to foster a greater sense of ownership of these challenges at all levels of the organization.

“The new B Corp standards raise the bar, and we welcome this development as an opportunity to continue making progress. For L’Occitane en Provence, recertification is not an end in itself: it allows us to measure our progress, identify areas where we still need to improve, and continue our transformation over the long term.” — Raphaëlle Archambeaud, Chief Sustainability Officer at L’Occitane en Provence

SIDE BY SIDE WITH B LABTM FOR NYCW

The brand will share this new milestone during New York Climate Week on September 22, 2026, during a talk organized as part of the PlanetHAUS event. Alongside other B CorpTM-certified companies, it will discuss the challenges associated with the evolution of B LabTM standards and the role of businesses in the transition toward more responsible models. Open to the public, PlanetHAUS will bring together consumers, brands, investors, the media, and creators around a shared vision: making sustainability a tangible, accessible, desirable, and joyful experience.
