Baker Street expands Rye Range with Light Rye

Baker StreetBaker Street is set to support continued growth in the rye bread category with the launch of its Baker Street Light Rye Bread – available in Sainsbury’s stores now.

Building on the success of its Rye & Wheat and Seeded Rye loaves, the new SKU taps into rising shopper demand for everyday breads that deliver more, combining health credentials with great taste, convenience and versatility. Baker Street is currently the UK’s no.1 rye bread brand, holding a 34 per cent value share of the market and delivering 57 per cent value growth and 56 per cent volume growth year-on-year.

The new Light Rye Bread has been developed for shoppers who are curious about rye but looking for a softer, more familiar eating experience. With a milder taste and lighter texture, it offers an easy introduction to rye, helping retailers bring the appeal of Baker Street’s growing rye range to more everyday bread shoppers.

Josh Corrigan, customer development director, UK, at St Pierre Groupe, comments: “Rye continues to perform strongly as shoppers look for simple ways to make healthier choices within the categories they already buy. Baker Street has played an important role in bringing rye into the mainstream, combining the health credentials of the segment with the taste and convenience that shoppers expect from everyday bread.

“Light Rye is the next step in that journey. It gives shoppers a more familiar entry point into rye, with a softer texture and lighter flavour profile, while still delivering key nutritional benefits. For retailers, it offers a clear opportunity to broaden the appeal of the rye fixture, attract new shoppers and drive growth in a category that continues to gain momentum.”

The launch responds to the growing trend for ‘everyday health’, with consumers increasingly looking to make simple swaps rather than adopting restrictive diets. As a source of fibre, protein and several vitamins and minerals, including iron, magnesium and thiamin, Baker Street Light Rye offers a convenient way for shoppers to build added benefits into familiar meal occasions.

Made with a sourdough starter, the loaf has been designed for versatility across breakfast, lunch and snacking occasions. Its lighter taste and softer texture make it ideal for shoppers new to rye, whether used for toast, sandwiches, open-topped lunches or more elevated at-home meal occasions.

The launch also strengthens Baker Street’s wider rye portfolio, sitting alongside the brand’s Rye & Wheat and Seeded Rye loaves.

Available in a 500g pack, Baker Street Light Rye has an RRP of £1.85 and has launched into Sainsbury’s stores.

With rye continuing to attract new shoppers and health-led innovation driving growth across bakery, Baker Street Light Rye represents a strong opportunity for retailers to make specialty bread more accessible and unlock further value in the fixture.

Baker Street Light Rye Bread is available in Sainsbury’s stores now with an RRP £1.85.
