Pies are a great way to try new flavours, make the most of leftovers or celebrate favourite ingredients.

Mimi Morley, senior recipe development manager at HelloFresh, shares: “Pies are the ultimate comfort food, bringing warmth and nostalgia with every bite. There are a few key steps to create the perfect homemade pie. With these simple tips, anyone can enjoy a perfectly baked, delicious homemade pie – every single time:

“1. Choose the right pastry; shortcrust for a sturdy base or puff pastry for a lighter, crisp finish, keeping it cold for the best texture before cooking.

2. Blind bake the base to avoid a soggy bottom, especially with wetter fillings.

3. Layer your flavours by slow-cooking your filling ingredients and seasoning well for a rich, deep taste.

4. Seal the edges with egg or milk and cut small slits on top to release steam and for a beautifully golden crust.

5. Finally, let your pie rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing to help the filling set.”

Join us in celebrating Pie Week by trying these delicious recipes at home and exploring the wonderful world of regional flavours.

Or, if you’re looking for something a bit more familiar try HelloFresh Mushroom and Spinach Pie, Chicken, Bacon and Mushroom Pie, or even the veggie Chickpea Pie. There are dozens of pies to try with HelloFresh.
