Car retailer Motorpoint partners with the Retail Trust to boost staff wellbeing

Nearly new car retailer Motorpoint is introducing new measures to help improve its people’s mental health by joining forces with retail industry charity the Retail Trust.

The Retail Trust will provide wellbeing services such as counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy and financial aid for Motorpoint’s staff thanks to the new partnership, as well as mental health support for any young people under their care.

They will also be given access to the Retail Trust’s ‘better you’ happiness assessment which provides employees with a personalised programme of clinically advised support and employers with data, insights and plans to manage mental health across their business.

Jess Smith, head of people and culture at Motorpoint, said: “At Motorpoint, we work hard to ensure we do everything we can to support the wellbeing of our colleagues across the whole business and their families.

“With this in mind, we are proud to announce our partnership with the Retail Trust and in turn, provide the team access to such a wealth of resources.”

While research for the Retail Trust’s Health of Retail report in June found 80% of retail staff have experienced declining mental health in the last year, a range of brands like WHSmith, bp and The Entertainer have also partnered with the Retail Trust this year to improve wellbeing.

Chris Brook-Carter, chief executive of the Retail Trust, said: “Everything from the cost-of-living crisis to a rise in abusive customers is having a real impact on people working in retail so it’s important they get the right support, whether it be access to financial aid and counselling or more training so that managers can better support their teams.

“At the same time, retailers of all shapes and sizes are realising the importance of developing a happy, healthy and hopeful workforce when it comes to running a successful business and it’s great to work with businesses like Motorpoint to show how they can really put this into practice.
