Clawson Farms launches new range of truckles

Clawson Farms - ProductsClawson Farms has launched an innovative range of six new wax truckles which draws on their 100 year history as a farming co-operative and master cheesemakers. The range aims to disrupt the growing and increasingly competitive category by combining punchy characterful branding with well-loved flavours, which have been elevated by using premium ingredients or adding a flavour twist. The range is being presented with a cast of memorable characters and brand names.

There are 6 products in the range, from savoury to sweet flavours, which draws on the company’s long history of cheese making and expertise in pairing and blending flavours together. By combining premium cheese and ingredients and beautifully hand drawn characters with memorable names, the range injects innovation and personality into this traditional category.

Clawson Farms truckles use a wider range of cheese bases than most truckle ranges, including premium Cheddars, Red Leicester and Wensleydales. Individual cheeses include Captain Bulldog, a premium vintage cheddar championed by the illustrated character Bertie; Truffle Seeker, a truffle laced cheddar represented by foraging pig Fred with satisfying waves of flavour coming from rich truffle and sweet honey; and Dormouse’s Delight, enjoyed by mascot Dorothea, the dormouse who adores its tasty blend of Wensleydale, fruity cranberry, sweet elderflower and orange marmalade.

“Our research shows there is a real desire for unusual flavours and distinct branding for truckle cheeses, particularly in delis and farm shops” explains Bill Matthieson, managing director of Clawson Farms. “We are bringing to the sector something original in terms of taste and premium in terms of quality. There is more browsing and tasting time in local delis where shoppers are happy to discover new flavours. Traditionally truckles have been bought for special occasions and gifts, but our insight shows that more people are now buying them to enjoy as a treat for themselves.”

The range was launched at the Farm Shop and Deli show and is available to order now from selective wholesalers. RSP is £5.50 per 200g truckle (Truffle Seeker 150g).

  • Captain Bulldog – Vintage Cheddar
  • Wizards Fire – Red Leicester with Scotch Bonnet and Harissa
  • Dormouse’s Delight – Wensleydale with Cranberry, Elderflower and Marmalade
  • Castaway – Wensleydale with Mango & Ginger
  • Truffle Seeker – Extra Mature Cheddar with Truffle & Honey
  • Gunpowder – Naturally Oak Smoked Mature Cheddar
