Hot off the cobbles, Co-op has announced the launch of two new Coronation Street licensed food lines, further expanding the unique partnership between two iconic Manchester-based institutions.
Fans of the TV soap have the opportunity to get a taste of foodie favourites inspired by the locals of Weatherfield – Roy’s Rolls and The Kabin. The delicious, soft, flour topped white rolls from the famous Roy’s Rolls has hit the shelves, whilst those who enjoy a sweet treat, can now get their hands on The Kabin’s exclusive Rhubarb & Custard Cupcakes – sweet rhubarb filled vanilla sponge cakes topped with a rhubarb and custard flavoured frosting.
Co-op officially opened its doors in Weatherfield in April 2018 as one of the largest product placement partnerships on British TV. Now on its sixth successful year, the store façade can be spotted frequently on air along with Co-op branding which is found throughout the store on posters, bags, electric delivery vans and other assets.
The new launches follow a series of collaborations between the famous street and convenience retailer, including a previous selection of licensed products from Co-op’s food-to-go and ready meal ranges (The Coronation Street Chicken Sandwich and Betty’s Hotpot), a Coronation Street designed Co-op shopping bag to celebrate the Soap’s 60th anniversary, an exclusive opportunity for Co-op members to ‘meet the Coronation Street stars’ virtually and a Coronation Street themed re-design of Co-op’s 22 fleets which delivers product to its stores nationwide.
Lois McClure, Assistant Partnerships Manager at Co-op said: “We’ve had such a great response from customers, colleagues and Coronation Street fans since the launch of the Weatherfield Co-op store in 2018 and we’re excited to continue building on our partnership and our shared sense of community spirit. As a convenience retailer, we’re at the heart of local life and it’s always a pleasure to bring more of the cobbles to Co-op – we know this resonates with our customers so it’s great to be involved in providing them with more opportunities to engage closer with such an iconic show.”
The new products are available at selected Co-op stores now. Roy’s Rolls are available as a pack of six, priced at £1.15. The Kabin’s Rhubarb & Custard Cupcakes are available as a pack of two, priced at £1.25.
