Costa Coffee has served one matcha drink every four seconds across the UK since its nationwide launch in January, as the green favourite continues to surge this February. Defying the cold, seven out of ten matcha drinks sold are iced – showing customers are choosing icy over cosy this winter*.
The UK matcha market has seen huge growth over the past year, driven by consumers seeking colourful, plant-based, and customisable beverages that combine taste, convenience, and visual appeal. As the UK’s largest coffee shop brand, Costa Coffee is able to offer matcha to customers nationwide, making it accessible wherever they are. Allegra’s Project Café 2026 report shows that 11% of consumers have purchased an iced matcha in the past year, rising to 18% among under-30s, and the majority of industry leaders expect matcha’s popularity to continue increasing over the next year, cementing its growing prominence on UK coffee shop menus.
Costa Coffee is expanding its matcha range to cater to every taste. Fans can already enjoy three favourites: the Hot Matcha Latte, creamy and fully customisable with your favourite milk and syrups; the refreshing Iced Matcha Latte, perfect all year round; and the playful Strawberry Coconut Iced Matcha Latte, blending creamy coconut with sweet strawberry sauce.
From 5 March, the range will be joined by the new Cherry Vanilla Iced Matcha Latte, a limited-time spring favourite and one of the “IT” flavours for 2026, combining smooth matcha with cherry and vanilla.
“We’re excited to be expanding our matcha range following a hugely positive response from customers. From classic hot lattes to playful iced twists, there’s a matcha moment for everyone. We’ve put the same care into matcha as we do our coffee, creating a vibrant range of drinks that fans can enjoy all year round,” said Nishant Bhatia, global food & beverage innovation director at Costa Coffee.
To celebrate their matcha era, Costa Coffee is taking the matcha excitement beyond its retail stores with interactive pop-ups and exclusive reusable cups soon to be available across the UK.
Pop-up celebration: Plushies and Cozies
Matcha lovers across the UK can celebrate at ten interactive town centre pop-ups, where Costa Coffee will offer free samples of its matcha range and give away limited-edition Matcha Plushies and Cup Cozies. These pop-ups will bring the matcha experience to smaller towns and communities, ensuring fans nationwide can join in the fun.
Visitors can enjoy the Catch-A-Matcha game via a large matcha vending machine for a chance to redeem a Matcha Plushie or Cup Cozie, as well as win several £50 Costa Coffee vouchers. The touring pop-up offers an interactive way for consumers to try and engage with Costa Coffee’s matcha range.
