Dior has revealed it has been subject to a cyber attack – stolen data includes names, contact details, addresses, purchase history and more. Dior customers have been urged to be cautious of suspicious messages, as the exposed data makes them targets for scams.
With M&S still recovering, and Co-op shelves left empty, the recovery time business face is devastating – with retail attacks on the rise its fundamental that the right security measures are put In place for businesses.
Executive VP EMEA, Spencer Starkey at leading cyber security company, SonicWall, said: “While M&S is actively working to resolve the issue with the assistance of cybersecurity experts and national authorities, there is currently no definitive timeline for full recovery. The complexity of the attack, involving encrypted systems and potential data breaches, suggests that restoration of all services could take several more days or even weeks.
“We have seen at SonicWall that organisations were under critical attack for an average of 68 days in 2024, highlighting the potential for prolonged recovery periods following sophisticated cyberattacks Threat actors are now exploiting vulnerabilities within 48 hours of disclosure – far faster than most organisations can patch – highlighting a growing gap between threat velocity and enterprise readiness. Retail is one of the key targets for hacker groups and bad actors.
“Due to the speed at which new attacks are being created, they are more adaptive, and difficult to detect, which poses an additional challenge for cybersecurity professionals. From a high-level business perspective, they must look to constantly monitor their network for suspicious activity, using security tools to detect where logins are occurring, on what devices.“
