Finsbury Food Group launches first-to-market cake bento boxes into UK supermarket with new own-brand Little Big Cake

Finsbury Food GroupFinsbury Food Group, a leading UK speciality bakery manufacturer, is shaking up the celebration cake aisle with the launch of its own-brand, Little Big Cake. It’s the UK’s first cake-only bento box to hit supermarket shelves and is exclusive to Tesco for 12 weeks from today (Monday 19 January 2026).

The ‘Paint the Town Red Velvet’ Little Big Cake is aimed at millennials and gen z shoppers and is Finsbury’s creativenew venture into Instagram-worthy bento cake formats. It features one big cake with a soft, velvety sponge layered with raspberry jam, topped with tangy cream cheese frosting and a flurry of funfetti sprinkles, serving eight. The box also contains four mini red velvet cupcakes crowned with cream cheese frosting and a drizzle of jam. It retails at £14 and weighs 740g.

Bento cakes have been building momentum in the independent bakery and online gifting world, but they come at a premium as they are made to order. Finsbury spotted a gap in the market for a bento cake box that shoppers could pick up at the supermarket while doing the weekly shop. It also provides an alternative gifting idea for occasions that call for greeting cards, flowers, chocolate or wine as the packaging features a gift tag, allowing personalisation.

This new brand launched by Finsbury will give the bakery manufacturer the opportunity to respond more quickly to consumer trends and innovate with flavour profiles across the seasons, bringing more excitement to the cake category.

Ross Lowrey-Heywood, development innovation manager at Finsbury Food Group, said: “This launch reinforces Finsbury’s ambition to lead in bakery innovation. We want to be first to market, bring new ideas to shelves and excite shoppers with products that reflect changing tastes and lifestyles.”

Adding, Kimberley Curtis, brand manager at Finsbury Food Group, said: “Little Big Cake is all about spreading joy, it started with a simple thought: a little cake can make a big moment. We’ve seen a rise in smaller occasion moments among consumers, and we wanted to create a cake that was perfect for this. Whether that’s a well done, a Happy Birthday, a girls’ night in or even a ‘just because’ to brighten an ordinary day.

“It’s versatile, it’s easy to share at a party or in the office, and it’s even easier to take home thanks to the way it’s portioned. Ultimately, Little Big Cake has been created with shareability, indulgence and spontaneous celebration in mind and our Paint the Town Red Velvet Little Big Cake is just the beginning.”
