Google has appointed former THG Beauty chief marketing officer, Pete Metcalfe, as its new director of retail UK&I.
Metcalfe said: “I am thrilled to be joining Sophie Neary (and her team to help lead the Retail rocket ship across the UK&I. Having worked across some of the biggest retailers in the UK, I have always been passionate about the industry. Whether agency or client side, I have lived the fast pace, navigating complexity and opportunity at scale. Now, I am joining the best team in the business to accelerate the Retail landscape during this unprecedented age of AI.
“For my entire career in marketing, I have collaborated with Google. They have always been the partner I most admired. There are so many reasons, but these are the ones that stand out:
- The utility of the original idea and ability to build on that consistently
- The global culture they have grown and nurtured
- The tireless innovation that drives the business everyday
“I have watched firsthand over nearly two decades, as they have universally defined the way we search online and completely reinvented the way we consume media through YouTube.
“This focus and energy is as relevant today in the Gemini era as it was when I first logged into AdWords all those years ago.
“It feels like the perfect time to join given the retail transformation happening right now. The way people stream, search and shop is going to change dramatically over the coming months and years, and we will be right at the centre of this shift.”
