Hamleys

With life increasingly fast-paced and complicated, Hamleys toy experts are homing in on a growing cultural shift towards simplicity – a bouncy ball and teddy bear featuring heavily in their Top Toys for Christmas this year.

With an estimated 15,000 new toys launched in the last 12 months, Hamleys’ senior buying team have honed their festive recommendations to 15. There’s no shortage of tactile comfort, uncomplicated and nostalgic fun to be had in the list full of great value toy options. But the list includes fun tech too, with a robotic Toy Story Woody, a zippy remote controlled drifting car and an AI powered football skills game.

TY Bouncers at £7 each are already laying claim to pole position in the must-haves this Christmas. They offer a collection of 80 different soft, furry balls with character faces from cats, cows, monkeys and pandas to familiar icons from Spiderman, Stitch and Paddington to Bluey, Batman, Paw Patrol and Minecraft characters.

“They’ve been building steadily all year to a point now where they’re a full-on craze. They work because they represent uncomplicated fun: a timeless toy – reimagined. They are simple – no tech, no instructions — just bounce and laugh. They also offer tactile engagement with soft textures and the friendly faces offer a sensory break from digital overload. They evoke nostalgia – the charm of classic toys, reminding parents of their own childhoods. In a world full of noise, they’re a reminder that sometimes, the simplest things bring the biggest smiles,” said Victoria Kay, head of buying and merchandising at Hamleys.

According to research from Future Marketing Insights, compact designs that work well at home and on the go are increasingly popular1, while products that can be stored neatly and grow with children are especially valued. At the same time, adults are turning to tactile, fuss-free toys that offer moments of calm and independent play.

With a classic new Teddy Bear range, a series of Market Place food soft toys – a category still growing in popularity – and Peppa Pig’s beloved baby Evie, it is set to be a comforting Yuletide.
