InstaVolt backs simpler planning laws but urges Government to stay bold on EV mandates

InstaVoltInstaVolt, the UK’s leading provider of reliable and sustainable ultra-rapid charging solutions, has voiced its support for the Department for Transport’s (DfT) latest proposals to streamline the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

However, the company is urging the government to ensure the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate remains ambitious and undiluted, to secure the UK’s net-zero goals.

The DfT’s consultation, launched today (24th December), outlines plans to restore the 2030 phase-out date for new petrol and diesel cars, update the ZEV mandate, and introduce legislative changes to make charger installations easier.

Proposed amendments include permitting off-street installations under simplified planning legislation and streamlining street works processes through digital applications on the Street Manager platform.

InstaVolt’s CEO, Delvin Lane, commented: “We welcome the government’s efforts to reduce barriers to installing EV charging infrastructure.

“Simplifying planning processes is a critical step forward in accelerating the deployment of a robust charging network, which is key to supporting the transition to zero-emission vehicles.”

As an industry leader, InstaVolt recognises the importance of collaboration across the automotive and charging sectors to achieve the UK’s 2030 goals.

However, the company has emphasised the need for the ZEV mandate to remain stringent to avoid undermining the progress already made by the EV industry.

Delvin continued: “While we recognise the importance of having manufacturers onside during this transition, it is essential that the ZEV mandate remains ambitious and undiluted.

“Robust policies will not only foster consumer confidence but also encourage continued investment in EV technology and infrastructure. Any weakening of these targets risks delaying the UK’s journey to net zero and undermining the significant environmental benefits that EVs promise.”

InstaVolt’s support for the Department’s efforts is further reflected by its inclusion in a new video produced by the DfT.

The video showcases InstaVolt’s role in building EV infrastructure and highlights the high regard in which its reliable and extensive charging network is held.

InstaVolt has been at the forefront of the UK’s EV revolution, delivering 99.8% reliability across its network of nearly 1,800 rapid chargers.

The company is set to open its largest-ever superhub near Winchester in 2025, featuring 44 ultra-rapid chargers powered by renewable energy.

As a key stakeholder in the EV ecosystem, InstaVolt calls on the government, industry, and consumers to work together to ensure the UK achieves its decarbonisation goals while fostering a cleaner, greener future for all.
