M&S expands Heathrow airside store in response to customer demand for more fresh, quality food pre-flight

Marks & Spencer has today opened its expanded airside Food store in Heathrow Terminal 5, as part of its strategy to grow M&S Food in new destinations. The new store is almost double the size of the pilot store, which opened last summer, and brings M&S Picky Bits and an in-store bakery airside for the first time.

As the world’s most connected airport, Heathrow welcomed a record 40 million passengers in the first half of 2026, with hundreds of thousands of people starting journeys to more than 200 destinations around the world every day this summer. The expanded M&S store is designed to meet passengers’ needs before they fly from quick, quality food for the journey to recognisably British treats and gifts to take overseas.

Customer insight shows that 45% of passengers struggle to find healthy food in airports* and this new store will offer more of the M&S Food range including the Nutrient Dense Berry Bliss Bowl, High Protein Smoky Bean & Egg Pot and salads like the Super Nutty Wholefood salad.

The investment in a permanent airside store reflects M&S Food’s wider convenience growth strategy, which is focussed on opening in high-footfall locations where customers want trusted, high-quality food on the move. By expanding in travel hubs such as Heathrow, M&S can reach customers in more everyday moments, broadening the role of its Food business beyond traditional shopping missions while building strong performance of fresh food, Food on the Move and gifting ranges.

Customers will find a broader food range from sandwiches, wraps, salads, sushi, fruit, bakery, chilled snacking, drinks, deli and dairy to travel-friendly favourites such as Prawn & Avocado Bloomer, Pesto Chicken Bloomer, Salt & Pepper Chicken Wrap, Chicken Shawarma. The expanded store also builds on the strong performance of M&S’s gifting range at Heathrow, with products such as British biscuit tins, Spencer Bear and the Big Daddy chocolate bar proving popular with customers looking for food for the journey or a last-minute gift.

Alex Freudmann, managing director at M&S Food, said: “Our Food growth strategy is about making M&S more relevant, more often wherever customers are shopping. Heathrow has shown the opportunity to bring our fresh food, Food on the Move and much-loved M&S gifting range into new locations and customer missions. After a successful first year airside, this bigger store brings an in-store Bakery with freshly baked products throughout the day, alongside customer favourites like Picky Bits, giving us even more confidence in the role travel locations can play as we continue to grow the convenience arm of the Food business.”

Ross Baker, chief customer officer at Heathrow, said: “We aspire to make every journey better, and that includes providing a great range of convenient, high-quality food and drink options. Our partnership with M&S plays an important role in delivering that. As one of the UK’s most trusted and well-loved brands, M&S has proved hugely popular with our passengers, and we’re delighted to welcome a permanent M&S Food store to Terminal 5, offering even greater choice and convenience.”

Opening at one of the busiest points of the summer travel season, the larger store gives customers a trusted M&S option airside when speed, ease and quality matter most.
