From silver jewellery taking over the red carpet at the Brit Awards to statement pieces on the runways at London Fashion Week, this spring a new wave of jewellery trends has arrived. Whether dressing up for a night out, or finding that everyday staple piece, there are many trends this season that allow you to express your individuality.
To help you find out more, jewellery expert Emma Fox from Pandora UK, gives her take on the trends that are anticipated to dominate this spring and throughout the year.
In for 2024
Signet rings
“Signet Rings are the latest ‘it’ jewellery thanks to Netflix’s One Day. Dexter Mayhews character is spotted wearing a silver signet ring throughout the series as a key component of his costume. Whilst the signet ring is an old-school classic, it has become a modern symbol of style for both men and women. Whilst some may argue that the signet ring has never really been out of fashion, it will undoubtedly be making a comeback this year.”
Pandora’s Engravable Signet Ring is the perfect staple item with an extra-special element in that you can engrave a personal message to the face of the ring.
Silver jewellery
“Silver jewellery is having a huge resurgence and we’ve already seen this on the AW 23 runways and on the red carpet in 2024. Silver necklaces and drop earrings have dominated the red carpets at Awards Season so far, with statement pieces also being a noticeable trend.
“Although choice of metal comes down to personal preference, this year we can expect to see bold silver jewellery taking over, with large statement earrings, silver chain necklaces, bracelets and cuff bracelets making a comeback. Notably, our data reveals an increase in demand for silver jewellery as searches for ‘silver rings’ were up by 264% between October 2023 and January 2024.”
Bold Gemstones
“In 2024, vibrant gemstone pieces are set to trend, driven by a growing appreciation for the unique and personalised touch they offer.
“Gemstones, particularly birthstones, are gaining popularity for their symbolic significance and the individualised expression they bring. As consumers seek distinctive and meaningful alternatives to traditional diamonds, the allure of vibrant gemstones, each with its own significance, is anticipated to significantly impact consumers’ preferences this year. The trend reflects a desire for personalised, expressive choices that go beyond conventional aesthetics.”
Supersized statement pieces
“Over recent years, ‘the bigger the better’ has gained significant traction in the world of jewellery. Statement pieces can be large, colourful or unusual in shape, but the key is that they are expressive and bold. Whether it is a ring, necklace, bracelet or pair of earrings, you want it to be the focal point of the look, so curate the rest of your outfit around this centrepiece for maximum effect.”
The single earring
“The single earring is a classic accessory making a comeback from the ‘80s that requires minimal effort for maximum effect. Over the years this trend has been donned by the likes of Emma Watson, Angelina Jolie, and Rihanna.
“With a single earring you can make it the focal point or tailor it to compliment your outfit. As it is an expressive and personal style, try switching ears and earrings to find what works best for you. Whether you opt for a dainty stud, sparkly drop, or a statement earring, this trend caters to every look by expressing your individuality and creativity.”
Rosettes – floral jewellery
“With the revival of the Y2K aesthetic, floral jewellery has once again captivated us. During the spring and summer months, we anticipate floral jewellery to be a staple part of every jewellery lover’s everyday outfits. Consumers are looking for unique and personal pieces to add to their collections this year, and the natural beauty of flowers is anticipated to be at the forefront of this year’s trends.”
Heart-shaped jewellery
“Heart-shaped jewellery including rings, necklaces and earrings is no doubt timeless, symbolising something everyone can relate to – love. However, we’ve noticed a surge in interest for heart shaped jewellery , especially with the reappearance of Y2K fashion.
“Our data reveals a 66% increase in on-site searches for heart shaped rings between September and November 2023, indicating a heightened interest in this romantic and symbolic centre stone choice as we head into 2024.”
There’s a more unique trend emerging with Pandora’s Black Chakra Heart Ring, available at £45. Beyond its distinct stone, its daring black hue adds an intriguing twist to the usual romantic red associated with the season of love.
Lab-grown diamonds
“Diamonds are forever and 2024 is no exception. Similarly to silver, diamonds were a favourite amongst A-listers at the Golden Globes earlier this month. Margot Robbie dazzled in a pair of enormous diamond studs, whilst Taylor Swift opted for shoulder-sweeping diamond drop earrings. Julianne Moore was also spotted wearing Pandora lab-grown diamonds at the Governors Awards in Hollywood in early January.
“However, they aren’t just for special occasions, and in 2024, we’re likely to see consumers opting for staple pieces that can be worn day to night and that they can keep for years to come.
“Lab-grown diamonds have been gaining popularity amongst consumers over recent years due to ethical and environmental considerations, cost-effectiveness and the ability to customise. Sales of our lab-grown diamonds increased by a huge 83% in 2023, with numbers expected to continue to rise.”
Mixed metals
“It’s not uncommon for jewellery lovers to only wear either silver or gold, but 2024 is going to shake up this narrative, as mixed metal jewellery is set to dominate. While there used to be a traditional rule that discouraged mixing metals, modern fashion embraces the idea of combining different metals to achieve a more eclectic and personalised style. This year we can expect to see the rules being broken and people opting for self expression and personal style rather than tradition.”
Tennis bracelets
“Tennis bracelets are always on trend, and this year is no different. A timeless classic that’s often spotted sparkling on the wrists of the super famous, Taylor Swift, Sofia Richie, Hailey Bieber, just to name a few.
“But it’s not just for celebrities, tennis bracelets are the ultimate go-to. Whether it’s spicing up your day time outfit, or adding a touch of glam to your evening look, the tennis bracelet is a classic staple that you can rely on to complete any outfit. We can expect to see tennis bracelets remaining on trend this year, and arguably every year after, so they’re definitely worth the investment.”
This sterling silver Sparkling Tennis Bracelet, retailing at £80, is described as ‘absolutely stunning’ by shoppers and is decorated with a bold line of clear cubic zirconia to make a statement fit for any occasion.
Engraving Jewellery
“Matching jewellery with a friend or partner is something we’ve seen as an emerging trend. Last year Zendaya and Tom Holland showcased their adorable commitment to each other with jewellery engraved with their initials on.
“Engraving jewellery is the perfect way to celebrate something special or someone important. An engraved message can make your jewellery even more meaningful by adding a personal touch to your favourite pieces.
“If you’re giving jewellery as a gift, engraving not only makes the piece unique but adds sentimental value. Picking a special word, message or date that is significant to you and the person you’re giving it to – is the best way to make the gift extra special and symbolise what that relationship means to you.”
Charm bracelets and necklaces
“In 2024, there is a rising trend of charm jewellery including bracelets and necklaces. Charm bracelets are the latest addition to the personalised jewellery trend that we’ve seen dominating the fashion landscape over the last few years, such as initial and zodiac sign necklaces.
“Portraying a sense of identity is important for consumers, it’s a way of showing personality and there’s no better way to do that than a collection of charms that represent you. Charms promote individuality and allow the wearer to express themselves whether it’s a birthstone, an astrological sign, or a personal symbol. Charm jewellery is designed specifically for you so it has a huge sense of self-expression and we can expect to see a whole lot more of this in 2024.”
