SML launches ClarityⓇ Food to help food industry reduce waste and boost efficiency

SML, a global leader in innovative RFID solutions, has today announced the launch of its brand-new solution, ClarityⓇ Food, to help grocers and quick service restaurant (QSR) businesses minimize food waste. SML provides innovative RFID solutions for retail stores and supply chains with over 7,500 stores using its technology to manage inventory and run operations and 500 million items managed weekly.

Effective inventory management is an ongoing challenge for grocery and QSR businesses. Inaccurate inventory data leads to poor customer experiences. However, the perishable nature of food items also creates opportunities for significant waste, with grocery stores throwing away billions of pounds of food annually, simply because it is not fresh enough.

According to recycling company RTS, US retail stores generate approximately 16 billion pounds of food waste yearly, with 40% of overall food waste coming from grocers, restaurants, and food service companies.

ClarityⓇ Food software aims to provide 93-99% accuracy and reduce QSR food waste by 48% by helping stakeholders more effectively manage cases of perishable food products. With the solution, grocers and restaurants can also comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) by driving real-time traceability. The solution will transform the food industry, addressing critical aspects, ensuring enhanced efficiency, and delivering a proven return on investment (ROI).

Key features of ClarityⓇ Food include:

  • Food Traceability with RFID Technology: ClarityⓇ introduces a new era of transparency in the food supply chain through advanced RFID technology. Grocers can trace every product seamlessly, ensuring unparalleled visibility from farm to fork

  • Waste Management: Supply chain operators can effortlessly manage and optimize waste with ClarityⓇ Food. The solution allows them to identify inefficiencies, streamline processes, and reduce environmental impact, all contributing to a more sustainable and cost-effective operation

  • Real-Time Visibility for Smart Inventory: Grocery retailers can gain a competitive edge with ClarityⓇ Food’s real-time visibility, gaining a comprehensive overview of their supply chain and back-of-store operations. They can make informed decisions and minimize stockouts or overstock situations with intelligent inventory management

  • Best Before Date Precision: ClarityⓇ Food helps users ensure precision in tracking best-before dates, minimizing the risk of expired products in their inventory. This feature not only enhances product quality but also aids in regulatory compliance

  • Proven Return on Investment: The implementation of ClarityⓇ Food translates into a tangible ROI for businesses. By optimizing food traceability, streamlining waste management, ensuring real-time visibility, and maintaining accurate best-before dates, ClarityⓇ Food empowers retailers to operate at their peak performance, leading to increased profitability

Dean Frew, CTO & senior vice president, RFID Solutions, SML Group, commented: “SML’s Clarity® RFID solutions have created tangible benefits for retailers around the globe. With ongoing waste in the food industry, we see that using our technology leadership position in  RFID technology will prove to be a game changer for food retailers.”

“With a commitment to excellence, we continuously strive to redefine industry standards and empower businesses for sustained success. SML ClarityⓇ Food sets a new standard for efficiency, sustainability, and profitability in the food and QSR industries.”
