Health and beauty retailer Superdrug and Savers have reached a phenomenal fundraising milestone, raising £15m for Marie Curie, as part of a long-standing partnership with the UK’s leading end of life charity.
Fundraising highlights since the partnership began in 2013 have included celebrity collaborations with Joe Baggs (Gogglebox) and Mollie Pearce (The Traitors), who supported the Purchases for Nurses campaign. Other highlights include in-store campaigns for the charity’s biggest annual fundraiser, the Great Daffodil Appeal, helping Marie Curie reach even more people facing terminal illness.
Currently, one in four people in the UK die without the care and support they need at the end of life. A donation of £23 funds one hour of nursing care and since 2013, the partnership has funded 652,173 hours of expert nursing care and support for people at the end of life – in their homes, in hospices and via the charity’s free support line.
Doug Winchester, managing director of Savers, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we have just hit the milestone of raising £15 million for Marie Curie over our 12-year partnership.
“We are incredibly proud of our colleagues and customers whose passion and dedication have made this milestone possible. Supporting Marie Curie is really important to us, and we want to continue doing what we can to help everyone receive the end of life care they deserve.”
The partnership between Superdrug, Savers and Marie Curie has been extended for an additional two years, aiming to raise £20m by the end of 2027, marking another significant milestone for the partnership, ensuring more people receive the care and compassion they deserve at the end of life.
Matthew Reed, chief executive at Marie Curie, added: “On behalf of everyone at Marie Curie, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all Superdrug and Savers colleagues, customers, and suppliers for their support over the years.
“Reaching the £15 million milestone is an extraordinary achievement. Their support is helping us in our mission to transform end of life care across the UK, meaning more people receive the care they need when it matters most. Whether through in-store fundraising, personal challenges, or getting behind our biggest fundraising campaigns like the Great Daffodil Appeal, Superdrug and Savers have played a crucial role in making this possible.”
Marie Curie supports people with any illness they are likely to die from including Alzheimer’s (and other forms of dementia), heart, liver, kidney and lung disease, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s, and advanced cancer.
