Tesco is bringing a taste of Korea and Japan to snack aisles with a new range of bold crisps, street-food inspired bites, trendy pouch drinks, and mochi-style sweets. Korean and Japanese-style snacks are booming in the UK, fuelled by K‑pop and J‑pop cultural momentum, social media virality and rising demand for bold, umami-rich flavours.
Tesco reports a surge in customer appetite for East Asian cuisine, with searches for ‘Korean style’ products rising 51% year on year. Interest in Japanese food is also climbing, reflected in a 16% uplift in searches for ‘Japanese’ across Tesco.com over the past year.
Tesco is the first supermarket retailer in the UK to launch the following:
- Cantabile’s popular and colourful Korean pouch drinks spanning fruity ade-style flavours and coffee options.
- A range of mochi-style sweets including Q Mochi with a chewy texture and Fini Mini Mochi Gummies with a soft bite and liquid fruity centre.
- Playful confectionery such as Naemam Molang Heart Gummy, super-sour and fruit jelly treats from Yum’z Bites, and Sugarolly Cotton Candy Rolls.
- Tokimeki biscuit sticks in popular flavours like Matcha and Blueberry, and Oreo Sandwich Biscuits in adventurous varieties including Matcha and Grape & Peach.
- Crown Corn Snacks in Chocolate and Churros flavours.
