Introducing Showerings; a dry and gently carbonated fine cider made from a blend of three vintages sourced from award-winning orchards. It is produced by the Showering family, who have been making cider from their mill in the heart of Somerset for more than 180 years.
Today, under the leadership of Nick Showering, the brand continues to embody generations of expertise and is committed to producing exceptional cider. Balancing heritage with innovation, Nick Showering champions the philosophy of terroir and time, exploring how fine cider can earn a place in our conversations and on our tables, while remaining rooted in the traditions of British farming.
With a mission to elevate the perception of cider and the skill it takes to make it, Showerings is a versatile alternative to wine, equally suited as a refined aperitif or as a considered accompaniment to food.
TASTE
Showerings use primarily aromatic late-season Dabinett apples from award-winning orchards. Considered the premier cider apple, Dabinetts strike the perfect balance of natural sugars and tannins and carry distinctive notes of vanilla and bitter orange.
The apples are harvested in the autumn at peak ripeness. The fruit is then pressed, fermented and aged for a minimum of four months using low-intervention fermentations to develop depth, maturity and character by Head Cider Maker Bob Cork.
TERROIR & TIME
Cider is one of the world’s oldest drinks, with wild apples carried across continents by nature and human movement alike long before cultivation took root in the British Isles. Over centuries, orchards flourished across changing landscapes and climates, with cider-making evolving into a craft shaped by land, seasonality and patience.
The Showering family’s own cider-making story began in 1843 at The Ship Inn, the Somerset pub opposite where the cider mill stands today. More than 180 years later, the Showerings family continue their legacy, guided by the belief that – as with wine – terroir and time play a defining role in the character of cider.
Sourced from Showerings’ award-winning orchards, the apples used to make each vintage vary according to the terroir and conditions of the growing season. From sun-soaked summers to wetter autumns, each year brings subtle differences in flavour and structure.
Showerings cider is made from three harvest years, requiring an intricate understanding of how flavours mature and mellow to create a distinctive profile that stands the test of time. Each vintage is selected on the merit of its character; refined enough to stand on its own, yet when blended and balanced together, the result is an elegant cider of exceptional quality – a triple vintage greater than the sum of its parts.
TESTAMENT
The rhythmic process of growing, harvesting, gathering, blending, scatting, pressing, fermenting, waiting, bottling to drinking has been perfected over time by the Showering family.
From winning Gold at the 1950 Brewers Exhibition to two stars at the 2025 Great Taste Award, Gold at IWSC 2023 and Gold at the Bath & West British Cider Championships 2024. The ongoing achievements recognise their long-held cider-making tradition.
TABLE
Once the preserve of restaurants, specialist retailers and fine dining, fine cider is now earning wider recognition among consumers looking for more elevated drinking experiences. With its balance of sharp and sweet notes, Showerings is also a natural partner for food, pairing beautifully with richer dishes such as lamb curry or acting as a pudding wine alongside something sweet.
It has already established a strong following among leading chefs, sommeliers and hospitality professionals, with listings in some of the UK’s most acclaimed Michelin-starred restaurants, including Core by Clare Smyth, L’Enclume by Simon Rogan and The Waterside Inn.
Now stocked in Waitrose and Tesco nationwide, Showerings’ reflects the growing demand for fine cider and the category’s continued expansion across the food and beverage sector. The UK remains the world’s leading cider producer and consumer, with 56% of all apples grown used for cider production. Showerings sets itself apart with a 100% fresh apple juice approach, using only the highest quality fruit.
As the price of fine wines continues to rise, fine cider offers an accessible alternative, with a lower ABV and a distinctive profile that excites the palate while celebrating Britain’s heritage of artisanal drinks. From Michelin-starred restaurants to supermarket shelves, Showerings is helping to redefine how cider is perceived and enjoyed in the UK.
