The power of freebies in online retail, e-commerce and sales

The internet has given consumers incredible power in terms of being able to shop around for the best prices, products, services, and deals. Online communication has also furthered the reach of recommendations, reviews, and even criticism, making it more important than ever before for businesses to make a positive impression on new and existing customers.

As online businesses battle it out against one another, one way to stand out against competitors from all around the world is by offering customers offers and promotions, with freebies being one of the top ways to attract consumers.

An excellent example of this is how some of the top new casinos in the UK offer promotions to new customers. Online gambling expert Matteo Farina explains that online casinos have a lot of competition, especially in the UK, so offering a variety of deals can help them attract and retain new players.

Different types of deals are typically offered by casinos, with welcome bonuses some of the biggest. These will typically involve deposit-matching bonuses up to a predefined amount and free spins. These deals encourage players to sign up and play, making it more likely that they will return.

Cashback deals are a popular way to ensure regular play, with other ongoing promotions, competitions, and loyalty programs offering customers a way to enjoy freebies based on how much they spend and play.

While most businesses that offer freebies do this as a way of attracting the attention of new customers, offering deals to existing customers also helps to express gratitude and make them feel valued.

Many modern websites and businesses incorporate some form of AI or machine learning elements into customer management. This makes it easier to streamline processes and ensure the data collected on each customer can be put to good use. This includes unique offers based on each customer’s spending habits.

Freebies can also be used to induce sales by offering free products with certain purchases. This helps to sweeten the deal and give customers a more favourable impression of a transaction.

Many smaller online businesses have also taken to including small freebies in orders to improve the customer experience. Token gestures like sweets, keyrings, and bookmarks don’t have a huge value, but will be recognised as a positive gesture.

More competitive industries are likely to have bigger offers, and this can also be true of higher-value products. The majority of these deals will involve customers making some kind of commitment, be it a purchase or signing up.

Having a customer’s information on file makes it easier for direct marketing campaigns and sign-up processes, will often require dates of birth, making it possible for birthday deals to be sent out to individuals.

Great service is an expectation, and anything falling short can result in bad reviews, customers relating their bad experience to family and friends, or negative social media posts. Good customer service rarely gets noted, but freebies can result in good publicity that improves the reputation and potential sales for businesses.
