thortful: don’t just kiss, take the p*ss this Valentine’s Day – couples regularly tease partners

New research has shown that humour is the key to lasting love this Valentine’s Day. According to the study commissioned by thortful, the UK’s leading online marketplace for greeting cards, nearly two-thirds (63%) of British couples believe that shared laughter strengthens their bond – couples who laugh together are more likely to stay together.

Of the 2,000 respondents, one in four (25%) have a “hall pass” agreement, where they would allow their partner to have a one-time, no-strings-attached fling with a celebrity.

Over half (52%) think that being able to joke about celebrity crushes is a sign of a healthy relationship and being able to ‘take the mickey’ out of your partner seems to be the secret with well over half (58%) of couples saying they regularly tease their partner about their celeb crush, with men (62%) being the biggest jokers.

The research highlights that British couples lean towards humour when it comes to expressing their love.

Pip Heywood, managing director at thortful, said: “It’s clear from the research that British couples pride themselves on having a laugh with their partner, and this Valentine’s Day is no exception. With our new Face Swap feature, we’re encouraging people to embrace the fun side of romance by transforming their loved ones into the stars of their own card. Combining the power of AI, our amazing Creator community has taken their creativity to a new level! FaceSwap is a truly unique way to personalise a card and create a moment of joy that’s guaranteed to raise a smile.”

To help bring more humour to ‘amore’, thortful has launched Face Swap, a cutting-edge AI-powered app exclusive feature that allows users to seamlessly merge their loved one’s face into a range of hilarious (and possibly disturbing) personalised greeting cards – think transforming them into a Hollywood heartthrob, a Renaissance masterpiece, or an internet meme.

Hollywood sensation Brad Pitt (9%) topped the list of most desired male celebs, closely followed by silver fox George Clooney (8%) and Ryan Reynolds (8%). Meanwhile, Margot Robbie (8%) led the rankings for female stars, along with Scarlett Johansson (8%) and Jennifer Lawrence (8%).

Despite these playful agreements, nearly a third (33%) of couples admitted they’d probably just ignore their celebrity crush if they ever met them in real life.

While 21% still favour traditional romantic cards, 19% of Brits would rather receive a humorous Valentine’s card, proving that a good laugh can be just as meaningful as a heartfelt message.

With Face Swap, thortful is tapping into this growing trend by offering a light-hearted and personalised way for couples to connect. Whether it’s poking fun at a partner’s celebrity crush or creating an inside joke with an AI-enhanced twist, Face Swap is the perfect way to bring smiles to loved ones this Valentine’s Day.
