CoOp store opening – Topsham Exeter.

A trio of Co-op stores re-opened on Friday (4, April 2025) following extensive programmes of improvements to ‘transform’ the community stores.

Located in Fore Street, Topsham (Devon); Newland’s Park, Scarborough and Ledbury Road, Tupsley (Herefordshire) the stores all relaunch with a fresh new-look and layout following their significant investment programmes.

The three convenience stores range in size from Tupsley at nearly 1,000 sq ft up to Newland’s Park at just over 2,300 sq ft, with more than 40 local jobs supported across the three sites.

All stores benefit from new refrigeration which cut energy consumption, and an enhanced focus on fresh produce. This sits alongside a focus on food-to-go and meal deals; frozen food; dairy; bakery; Fairtrade products, pizzas, flowers; ready meals, award winning wines and every day essentials

Co-op is committed to designing a customer offer which ensure its stores are a community hub and, a destination for residents, workers and visitors locally. Added services include parcel collection services; payment services via Paypoint; and cash machines (ATM) providing access to cash in the community. In addition, stores are fulfilment hubs for Co-op’s leading quick commerce operation, with fast and convenient online home delivery of groceries via Co-op’s own online shop – shop.coop.co.uk – and its strategic partners which include Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats.

Soft plastic recycling is also available, enabling shoppers to return harder to recycle materials such as crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches.

Member price savings create additional value for Co-op’s member-owners, with personalised offers for members and lower prices on the products shoppers buy most. Co-op has also launched its biggest ever value campaign, matching Aldi prices on over 100 everyday essentials for its members including fresh fruit, milk, eggs and bread.

Supporting UK farmers all of Co-op’s fresh meat – including in its ready meals, pies and sandwiches – is 100% British.

Speaking at the relaunch of the Topsham store where he has worked for 25 years, Daniel Case, store manager, said: “The whole team is delighted to invest in Topsham and relaunch Co-op’s Fore Street store. It looks incredible, and we have had a great response from the community. The store has been totally transformed with a fresh new-look and feel, and extended range of products – we pride ourselves on being able to deliver the quality, choice and value which can be enjoyed by everyone. We really look forward to welcoming our members and customers into their new-look Co-op. We’re here to contribute to local life and conveniently serve and support our community.”

Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives, with its history dating back 180 years. Its 6.2 million members own the business and play an intrinsic part in the governance of the organisation. The three store open between 7am-10pm daily.
