Weetons posts record first half of 2026 as destination retail model drives growth

Weetons Leeds Road has reported a record first half of 2026, delivering more than 10% like-for-like growth at its Harrogate flagship despite a challenging market backdrop and a weather-disrupted first quarter.

The Leeds Road site, whose freehold was acquired by TGH Capital in December 2023, is now in its third full year of trading under the group’s stewardship. The business recorded 60% turnover growth in 2025 and expects 2026 turnover to be three times the level recorded at acquisition.

More than 10,000 customers now visit the site each week, reinforcing Weetons Leeds Road as a retail, hospitality and lifestyle destination. The business has seen a significant increase in footfall alongside growth in transaction value, driven by range innovation, product breadth, strategic partnerships and a strong Weetons own-brand presence.

The destination brings together a premium Food Hall, Restaurants, Home & Garden, outdoor gardens and terraces, events and private hire. Its Food Hall offer spans fresh produce, pantry staples, Weetons Private Label, Chef-to-Go, butchery, bakery, patisserie and delicatessen, supported by long-standing supplier relationships and a commitment to provenance, quality and value.

At a time when many chain-led multiples have reduced served areas in favour of self-service models, Weetons continues to invest in specialist teams, customer engagement and theatre, with expert service across butchery, delicatessen, bakery, hospitality and horticulture. The model gives customers multiple reasons to visit, stay longer and return more frequently.

Home & Garden has become a material contributor to the site’s growth, supported by Garden Trading as a key partner within the TGH Capital portfolio. Over 2,000 Garden Trading SKUs have helped broaden the seasonal home, interiors, gifting, furniture and outdoor living offer, complementing Weetons’ food and hospitality proposition and increasing cross-category spend.

Liam Gill, TGH Capital, said: “The strength of Weetons Leeds Road is that it does not behave like a conventional retail format. It brings together food, restaurants, home and garden, events and outdoor spaces in a way that gives people multiple reasons to visit and stay. H1 2026 has been a record period for the site, with more than 10% like-for-like growth even with pressure on consumer confidence and difficult weather at the start of the year. That tells us the proposition is resonating.”

“Since acquiring the freehold in December 2023, our focus has been on quality, service, operational discipline and experience. We saw 60% growth in 2025 and now expect turnover in 2026 to be around three times the acquisition-year level.”

“We are actively reviewing opportunities for additional Weetons sites in the North of England. We will be selective, but the right large-format site, in the right catchment, could support a second flagship destination.”

TGH Capital is seeking large-format opportunities capable of supporting a second Weetons flagship destination. The search brief identifies a 30,000-50,000 sq ft scheme combining food, premium retail, hospitality and lifestyle within a high-quality, design-led environment, with the emphasis on experience, dwell time, repeat visitation and destination appeal.
