GoustoGousto is launching a ‘Veg Table’ recipe range, with each meal guaranteed to hit your 5-a-day! The new recipes join an already extensive range of vegetarian and vegan options, and comprises 12 new recipes, each guaranteed to hit your 5-a-day, from £2.99 a meal.

Recipes include a show-stealing cauliflower steak, doused in ruby red romesco, a slice of veggie heaven with a vibrant galette, jam-packed with pesto and greens, or a Middle Eastern mezze board to remember. Your healthy recipe repertoire is getting a full flavour upgrade, we’re talking dramatic tastes, exciting combinations and an extra helping of fresh fruit and veg.

Ellie Bain, Gousto’s senior nutritionist and registered dietitian, said: “Customers’ tell us their most important health goal is to eat more veg, but it’s not that easy. It’s recommended that we eat five fruits and vegetables a day for a reason – they’re a great source of vitamins, minerals and fibre offering an array of health benefits from weight management and reduced risk of diseases.

“The new range of recipes is packed full of more than 30 different fruits and veggies from chickpeas to kale, avocado to asparagus and mango to mushrooms. And did you know that the different colours of fruit and veg means they have different health benefits? This is because the colours are created by their fibre, antioxidants, vitamin and mineral content. So, get ready to hit your health goals whilst dazzling your taste buds with deliciously vibrant dishes inspired by global flavours.”

The new range is available to order from 13th June – 4th July, visit www.gousto.co.uk to order from the UK’s best value recipe box.

Dishes in the Veg Table range include:

  • Charred Nectarine & Goat’s Cheese Salad With Mustard Dressing
  • Sesame Sweet Potato & Avocado Poke Bowl With Orange Ponzu Glaze
  • Plant-Based Asparagus, Courgette & Almond Pesto Galette
  • Levantine Mezze With Beetroot & Feta Hummus & Tabbouleh
  • Charred Hispi Cabbage with Harissa, Orange & Fruity Couscous
  • Coconut & Mango Dal with Fluffy Rice
  • Chipotle & Orange Oyster Mushroom Fajitas With Pineapple Salsa
  • Harissa Shakshuka With Sumac Smashed Avo Toast
  • Basil, Almond & Kale Pesto Orzo With Pea Shoot Salad
  • Butternut Squash & Cashew Saag With Pea & Mint Pilaf
  • Sweet Corn & Red Pepper Masala Curry With Sultana Rice
  • Cheesy Cauliflower Steaks With Sweet Potato Mash & Romesco

Research commissioned by Gousto revealed 75% of Brits fail to meet the recommended fruit and veg intake. The main barrier to getting 5-a-day is that fruit and vegetables are too expensive (36%) amid the current cost of living crisis, closely followed by people not knowing enough ways to get their five-a-day (33%).

Almost half (48%) of the 2,010 people surveyed hadn’t eaten their five-a-day in the past month, with almost a quarter (22%) saying the same for the past year. It seems that Brits are in the dark about the guidelines too, with four in five (81%) unaware of what quantity constitutes a portion.

The Gousto research also revealed there are a huge number of misconceptions about what counts as your five-a-day – here are the most common:

  • Almost two in five (37%) think potatoes count, but they don’t
  • A quarter (25%) think nuts count, but they don’t
  • Three in five (60%) don’t think baked beans count, but they do
  • Over half (56%) don’t think sweet potatoes count, but they do
  • Only one in 20 (5%) think that pizza sauce counts, but it actually does
